Due to either lack of staff or overbooking we were unable to eat before 9.00 o clock on both nights so therefore we took a taxi in to Peebles and ate there both nights as 9.00 o clock was to late to eat as they stopped serving dinner at 9.45.
Stay was booked as a 50th Birthday/engagement celebration and it was a disaster.
The room I thought I had booked wasn't given us. It wasn't a refurbished one but an old one which was clean but tired. We were on the 4th floor and the free WiFi was useless in the room. The Spa pool was cold as a pump had broken and the heating was also cold. The hotel was full and like a human zoo. The only lounge area was small and in the lobby. We couldn't get dinner there as they were unable to cope with the volume of people. We were offered a table after 10 o'clock at night and had to go outside the hotel to eat. We were given a letter through the door saying breakfast couldn't cope and telling us to go very early or do room service. we did room service which arrived 10 minutes late, was poor quality and cold!!. We also had to chase it up. Totally disappointed. Avoid!!
First room was very cold, had no tv and bathroom had not been cleaned properly.
When we went back to reception, the receptionist was very helpful and "upgraded" us. Perfectly fine for overnight stay.
My husband and I enjoyed a last minute weekend here.
We loved the situation of the hotel with the cycle path at the back where we could walk every day. We liked the ambiance of the hotel, the staff were friendly and efficient and we enjoyed the food. We would definitely stay here again.
The staff are brilliant, the room was excellent, pool etc very good Some rough edges though where maintenance is letting the team down Outside's looking somewhat shabby.
Restaurant / bar food a bit on the costly side for me. Restaurants in Peebles were better value.
Great accommodation surrounded by beautiful countryside helpful courteous staff and good food
Will be visiting this hotel again
Worst Customer Service made for a very unhappy stay
The hotel was very nice & the surroundings were beautiful.
The service was very bad. The girl that checked us in had an unpleasant attitude when asked why we had to offer a credit card, all I wanted was an explanation as I had pre-paid the room. I believe it is courteous to ask if we've stayed before. She didn't. She gave us absolutely no details on where we could eat & when. We then went to have a sandwich in the bar, I asked for no salad, when it came the barmans exact words were "He's put a little lettuce on it but that's ok eh?" and then walked off. He then did not come back to ask if our food was ok (as I seen him do with other guests over the 2 days we were there) Before our sandwiches came, we asked if we could book in for dinner. We were told no, abruptly, it was fully booked. We ended up only being in the hotel to shower & sleep which I did not pay over £200 for. We ended up eating & drinking out so the hotel lost out on well over £300 due to this. What was not stated was that this is a dog friendly hotel. My husband is allergic to dogs. It wouldn't even be as bad if they just sat at their owners feet but there were dogs running about, jumping on furniture and barking. This was all in the 'cocktail bar' where you could also eat. What I will say is that the village of Peebles is brilliant. Some of the friendliest people I have come across & we would stay in Peebles again but definitely not at the Cardrona.
Exceeded our expectations
The hotel accommodation is excellent and the location is beautiful, we'll worth a visit.
Only one minor issue is the lack of seating in the bar area, we visited during a busy period and the few seats that are available were reserved by families that appeared to be keen not to share and were camped in for the long haul.
Great last minute stay.
Staff very pleasent and helpful.
hotel is in beutiful setting, the rooms are well equipped and modern and are well maintained, breakfast was excellent, price of evening meals and moreso drinks was too high.
Service very poite and helpful. Sporting facilities excellent although fishing is over priced. Thouroughly enjoyed stay and autumn offer was good value
