Cheap but definitely not cheerful !!.. unclean, room smelling of stale cigarettes and no heating.
Whole accommodation is tired and unloved, much how you feel when you leave.
Room smelt of stale cigarettes, window didn't open, shower was dirty and stained, toilet seat broken, basin above sink broken, toilet leaking, floor peeling up. I wanted to move room but a very un co operative man told me there was nothing available which I found hard to believe. Reported to the number of the manager who promises to get back in 24 hours - nothing now and its 48 hours. Do yourself a favour an avoid this 'hotel'
You don't pay a lot for the rooms here but they are clean and tidy, everything worked so it was a good buy.
The Highwayman used to be a pub with a reputation for drunks - nothing has changed.
Hotel accomodation was fair, comfortable bed and a clean room but certain things rather spoiled the visit. Firstly, no matter how quietly you try to close room doors, they boom and resonate which is annoying late at night. I decided to visit the bar just before closing time and had to walk past a customer who was urinating against a post on the patio in front of his friends male and female. In the bar, a couple of drunks were holding a shouted conversation and the barman joined in using a couple of words that are not found in the dictionary. Drinks were paid for and "put in the fridge"
I was also set back by the cost of a pint of lager which was £3.45 (but I have spent the past 12 years up North so this price may be the norm nowadays down South)
Finally, couldn't order my breakfast because the lady was apparently busy in reception. My order was eventually taken by a waitress who couldn't take any money but at least took my order to the kitchen. The food, when it arrived was good. Not the best hotel in the world but at £42.50 per night for 2, it served it's purpose.
I was here with a group of friends the room was very tiny for a double room and not set out right not happy whats so ever.
GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY AND COMFORT.
Really disappointed with the accommodation, the bathroom was appalling, the bath was green the shower dripped all night long and the general decor of it was so run down paint was pealing off the walls and the ceiling was mouldy, and to top it all off I woke up in the morning with a bite on my arm.
Room very clean, with a very clean and comfortable bed.
There were a few little items needing attention, ie missing door knob bathroom shelf both of which did not impair our stay in any way. The food was excellent and the staff were the friendliest most helpful I have ever come across.
A pleasant comfortable stay
I enjoyed my stay at the highwayman, my room was clean and the bed was very comfortable, I didn't have breakfast because I had to leave at 6:30am but I'm sure breakfast would have been excellent and good value for money.
The cost of my stay was just right and excellent value. The only thing I would say was the shower was cold, it didn't heat up and I could not control the temperature, I think it was seized up as the dial would not turn.
We have stayed at the highwayman Hotel on several occasions now and have noticed a gradual deterioration on the quality of the hotel.
The rooms are still clean with well made beds and white, clean bedding but everything looks very run-down. The rooms are very noisy at night and other guests are often shouting and calling out late into the night. I would not recommend people with young children stay here. The food is still good and value for money, but the service has deteriorated and the tables are often dirty.
