Convenient stay over in Calne in a friendly pub
First time I have stayed here. Very nice rooms in a converted barn at the back of the pub very friendly atmosphere in the pub and enjoyed the evening meal and breakfast live music the evening I stayed but don't let that put you off as they were tucked in one corner and not too loud. You couldn't hear them from the room at all. I will stay again

The room itself looked nice, but it had a strong musty smell. No ventilation possible
Because my room was on the ground floor overlooking courtyard which anyone walking by could access, hence I could not leave the window open. Also there were no net curtains and there were tables for drinkers in the courtyard, so no privacy unless I closed the curtains - not very nice during hte day and at night time it was not safe to leave the window open and it was noisy with the bar customers.
Not much selection for breakfast.

Mushrooms
Booked as an overnighter whilst in transit. RM 2 was offered and rejected because of damp, stained carpets and stained facilities. Settled on RM 4 which had clean linen and better feel. Closer inspection of the bathroom revealed black mould in the shower cubicle, stained shower tray, non functional mixer unit and MUSHROOMS growing between WC and shower screen. David the owner was invited to inspect and put the fungal growth down to the building being old and an in-efficient cleaner. Mushrooms should be part of the Full English breakfast experience not the bathing experience. On the positive side the food was fine and the beer excellent. The new owners are good people, but possibly in the wrong business.
