We stayed for the Cheltenham Festival and found this accommodation perfect for our needs, easy travelling time, good food, very friendly staff and overall most enjoyable.
Not for me
Booked this place at short notice as a stop over point between long journeys.
Not off to a great start as car parking is extremely limited and I had to park some distance away. Not such a problem on arrival as I am fit enough to carry my bags and the weather was fine, but wouldn't be good for elderly or infirm, and in the morning the rain was biblical so I got drenched before going off to work. Bar man was friendly and efficient enough on check in, and showed me to my room. I had booked a single room, so wasn't too concerned at small size (room 7), but it did fail the 6 cobweb test very quickly. Obviously this room hasn't seen a feather duster in quite some time. Bathroom was compact to say the least, and carpet on the floor!. At £55.00 room only, I thought that this didn't represent great value for money. This is a locals pub mainly inhabited by blokes watching the football, so don't bring your wife or girlfriend for a romantic getaway. The bedrooms are above the main bar area so quite noisy until closing time, but also adjacent to a very busy road so noise was a constant problem. Given the adverse first impressions, I chose not to eat here so cannot comment on the quality of the food, but went next door to the Fox, and that was great. Sorry, but not for me.
The better place to stay in Chipping Norton
At £45, I was not expecting a lot.
Upon arrival, there was no available spaces in the parking lot just behind the hotel, though there was a free overnight car park just about 2 minutes walk away. I entered the main pub and was seen to almost immediately, the bar man couldn't have been more helpful. He gave me the wifi password, took payment and took me up to my room. When he opened the room door, I was shocked. It was lovely. A king size bed with a good mattress, plenty of space, a good size TV and spotless en-suite. I was above the kitchen so it was a little noisy, but got quiet at 9pm. Had a great sleep and woke completely refreshed. The shower warmed up quickly and came out at just the right temperature. They provided huge fresh towels and plenty of toiletries. I had a full size kettle that boiled quickly and plenty of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and some hot chocolate. Having stayed in other local hotels at twice the price, this has to be the best yet. Avoid the Crown and Cushion. I'll be staying here again, can't fault it.
No curtains on bedroom window. Can be seen from other rooms.
Nice little pub
Lovely little pub - my room was quite basic but clean, tea and coffee facilities, nice hot clean shower.
Not the quietest of hotels but it is a pub, after all. Nice cosy atmosphere in the dining area, nice food which is very good value for money. And the staff are lovely, friendly and helpful.
The Kings Arms Chipping Norton
A nice surprise and ideal for Cotswold stay.Bathroom floor or side of bath needed cleaning. No hairdryer or shower but nice sized bath.Breakfast was ok, waitress not too happy about serving but not unpleasant.
Average at Best
Noisy, cold, poor shower.
Didn't bother with food is seems odd that they don't serve on a weekend (even though I was midweek) I just assumed this meant it isn't very good. Wandered into to town and found some great pubs to eat at!
Lost Property and Shower Hose
It is unfortunate we couldn't find a jacket we left in the closet.
The quality of the room we stayed at was generally good except there is no shower hose in the bath room.
No customer service or conversation.
This is your room, do you want breakfast. That was the extent. In the morning I stood in the bar for 20mins waiting to check out and pay. Then service was gruff and I was originally charged more than I should be. Anonymous and, to be honest, a bit bleak all round.
