Lovely pub in a lovely village
We stayed here for two nights on August Bank Holiday week-end & had a really good time.
The pub was very friendly and welcoming. Our room was large and very clean though the En-suite was quite small but adequate. The staff were helpful and chatted away quite happily, which made us feel like old friends, even the customers and other guests made it feel like your local. The food at the Saracens Head was excellent with plenty to choose from and well prepared. Breakfast really set us up for the day with good quality bacon, sausage etc. Service was very good even though the pub was very busy, which is always a good sign. We will definitely stay here again when we are in the area. The village is so pretty with plenty to see and do with lots of other pubs and places to eat if you want a change. There is also a good range of shops to wander round and all are very friendly and welcoming.
Comfortable overnight stay in friendly, pleasant surroundings.
Small but very pleasant room off the courtyard of the pub.
Basic but all you need and comfortable for an overnight stay. Pub itself very friendly atmosphere and the staff helpful and polite. Good selection of food ( a bit more vegetarian choice would be nice but this applies to a lot of establishments - not just this one ) Mash and veggie bangers was absolutely fine. Lovely location and a great area for a stroll around. Parking outside on the street not a problem. Overall - nothing to fault. I'd go back again if ever in the area.
Good base to explore the area
The room was small but comfortable.
A little expensive compared with similar places we have stayed. We were a little concerned as it opened straight off the courtyard which was busy with smokers and drinkers. However it became quiet at a very reasonable time so no worries. The breakfast was very good although it would have been nice to have been able to see the selection of cereals and to be given a choice of jams and marmalades. Evening meals looked really nice and we made a mistake in opting to eat elsewhere. The only parking is on street and we were some distance away but it is a safe area.
The Saracens Head
Clean and had everything you need. Staff friendly. Good breakfast.
Family get together
Booked several rooms for an extended family get together.
Rooms varied from quaint to modern depending on the room. Our room was quaint and above the pub. The bed was very comfy and we slept well. We had a pub lunch before the evening get together (at a family member's house) The food was excellent and there was something for everyone on the menu. I had steak & ale pie which was lovely and rich and all the vegs were freshly cooked and still had a bite to them, just how I like it. The breakfast was well cooked and tasty too if a little rushed. It was explained the half hour for breakfast was only temporary and normal hours would resume the next week. As we may have future family events at Amersham I would definitely stay here again. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome.
cold room !
Room was cold on arrival, wall heater didn't work, shower only had one glass panel instead of two so water covered bathroom floor.
Bathroom/shower room was very "tired" and in need of refurb and clean- will not be staying again
We were a little surprised to be in a room facing right onto a busy road, to one side of the pub, as from the website I had imagined all rooms would be off the courtyard to the back.
Since it was a Saturday night the footfall to and from the pub, with attendant conversations and cars, was constant and loud, but by midnight it had calmed down. If we use this b & b again (and in all other respects it was good) we will ask specifically for a room at the back.
We've stayed in 3 different rooms.
2 in the attached block and one with a lovely four poster and very comfortable bed. The accommodation is rustic homely. Very cosy. The detached stables are quieter but as long as you're aware you're aware ur above a pub the four poster is fun. Kerry the landlord is very welcoming and makes your stay personal. Bar staff are great and remember you. Breakfast, week put it this way scrummy and you don't need lunch!.
Very cool and interesting establishment but needs a bit of shampoo.
My single room was very interesting in that it retained quite a bit of the 16th century feel.
The linens were clean and the bathroom was pretty clean but the carpets needed a shampoo and the room smelled of urine. Smoke came in from guests smoking outside my door and window during pub hours which was very unpleasant. The double room of the other travelers who I was with seemed fine and was clean. All of the staff were very nice and welcoming.
Enjoyable stay with food after a long trip and a days work well recommended
