The Queens Head Inn

Great staff in a lovely old pub with rooms to the rear near the river - very picturesque and very quiet location.

Food a very pleasant surprise, evening meal and breakfast excellent.

Very pleasant weekend break

The accommodation was perfect for our weekend away, given its location and the price.

We were also within easy reach of the city of Peterborough, as well as the countryside and smaller towns, such as Oundle, which fitted in really well with our plans. The location was lovely; I only wish we had been visiting in the summer time instead of late-winter.

Excellent stay

An excellent welcome & accommodation much better than we were expecting given the price.

Comfortable room, close to the road but very little noise. Will definitely stay there again.

Queen's Head, Nassington

Just a one-night stay visiting family locally, a pleasant, quiet hotel, no problems whatsoever and perfectly suited our purposes, thank you.

They Don't Even make The Beds!

I really wanted to like this hotel, but however hard I tried, they thwarted me at every turn.

The room (number 6) had its own private front door, a hall with a monster sized wardrobe containing ironing board, iron, suitcase rest and enough space to hang a years worth of clothing. Good start. The bedroom was large, with a nice desk, armchair, wall mounted television and tea making facilities - better still, there were four tea bags, four sachets of coffee, sufficient milk and a plate of 'hand made' biscuits - my hopes were high. The first thing that rather threw me was the bathroom being right opposite the half glazed front door; the front door had no curtaining, and though the outer door had opaque glass, tiptoeing to the loo late at night was a bit unnerving with the outer door facing in to the car park. Next, the flush on the toilet was particularly loud - now this wasn't a problem, as there was a hall separating me from the bathroom and clearly I wouldn't be disturbed in bed because I'd be making the noise... only I hadn't bargained for paper-thin walls and the loudness of the flushing in adjacent rooms. What a terrible shame that such nice rooms were spoiled by no noise insulation and flimsy walls. On the plus side, there was no perceptible disturbance from patrons leaving the pub. Sadly, first thing in the morning I was woken by a neighbour coughing - I was just relieved that I couldn't hear him scratching his bum. The breakfast menu is generous and offers a selection including fruit juice, cereal or porridge, full English or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and there is tea, coffee and toast with preserves. I opted for smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and it was exceedingly good until I found a lump of eggshell in my mouth. This typified my stay - so nearly excellent and spoiled by a lack of attention to detail. My stay was for two nights and returning to my room after a day away, I was astounded to find that the bed hadn't been made, the tea replenished, the bathroom... basically, nobody had been in to my room to do anything. I had thought to wait until leaving the hotel to write my review, but the lack of chamber service made me decide that I'd go back to more reliable hotel chains and share my disappointment with you.

Return trip

Ive stayed here a number of times, for business and leisure.

When I arrived they had no record of the booking from Late Rooms but were happy to honour the rate (and offer a D,B & B package). The member of staff on reception was v helpful and ensured I was able to book a table towards the end of their evening service as I would be returning late from a business meeting. V friendly servce and excellent food.

Rooms are motel style at the rear of the pub/restaurant so there can be some car park noise and noise from guests sitting outside in good weather. From experience I know that sound travels if they have an "event" (I've stayed when there was a birthday party and again when there was a wedding and "enjoyed" the diso on both occasions!)

I've stayed here again since this visit, so they're doing something right!
