About the hotel
Believed by many to be the best kept secret in Bournemouth - The Chine is an oasis of true comfort and relaxation set in three acres of beautiful mature gardens and offering breath taking, unspoilt sea views over the tree tops. It is ideal for guests looking for a peaceful break - with the beach just a two-minute walk from the hotel grounds - as well as for those wishing to enjoy a little shopping and entertainment in the town centre which is just a five-minute drive away. The hotel overlooks and is within easy access of the Surf Reef.
There is plenty to enjoy in the hotel grounds also including water features - secluded areas - a playhouse for the children and of course - the lovely views. The hotel offers an outdoor heated pool and inside the hotel there is a sumptuous Roman Spa in which to unwind. The Sea View restaurant offers superb cuisine - the quality of which is matched only by its fantastic views over the tree tops and out to sea. The cosy cocktail bar is the perfect spot for a tempting aperitif or after-dinner drink - enjoyed by the fireside during the winter months. All 79 rooms at The Chine are superbly well-appointed - many with breath taking sea views and balconies. All rooms offer en-suite facilities and are equipped with a hairdryer - direct dial telephone - satellite TV and a courtesy tray. As well as a choice of standard or superior bedrooms there are a number of different configurations so that individual family needs can be met wherever possible - with interconnecting bedrooms - family suites and extra beds which can be put into the parents room. For families, the major attraction is perhaps the 7 miles of Bournemouth bay’s sandy beach with its Blue Flag for cleanliness, with RNLI lifeguards on duty in the summer season. There’s also the heated indoor swimming pool, the outdoor pool and the organised entertainment programme that helps to keep children occupied (and gives the adults time to enjoy themselves too). The Chine prides itself on its attentive service and attention to detail - making it a perfect family hotel in one of the most stylish seaside resorts in England. Saturday night peak season
We arrived late, about 10pm.
Reception was polite and porter helped unload car. Parking was all taken and I had to drive around for ten minutes before returning to the hotel when a non-resident was leaving and vacated a parking space on the adjacent side road close to the hotel entrance.
Room was a good clean standard with disabled access which we didn't need but it made for a large room with wet room bathroom. All good. Had the Sunday breakfast, very busy but staff efficient in seating us and getting us tea and showing us to the buffet. Good selection available hot and cold. View from restaurant down through Chine and out to sea looks picturesque on a sunny day. Facilities looked very good outdoor pool which was heated and indoor spa, gym etc. Bournemouth can be expensive for hotel accommodation. A good British style hotel in a residential location. Staff helpful and polite. Would stay again but get there early to park on site!
Our opinion of the hotel
We were given a room in the West Suite which was fine except for a couple of little points - the bath/shower water took a very long time to drain away; the cold water tap on the bath was inefficient, very little water coming from it.
One of the mugs was chipped (unhygienic). Sawdust on the skirting board edge where a trouser press has been installed (presumably a recent installation). On the whole we were satisfied with the room, the food was always delicious and very nicely presented, dinner was very reasonably priced. We would stay at the hotel again.
