Hotel had no food - was told that I was welcome to order a takeaway curry?. Room very small and very basic. Ensuite bathroom is a one piece moulded plastic glorified portaloo - smelt strongly of bleach covering something unpleasant. Carpet dirty. bed ok but sheet hardly covered mattress
Made to wait 20 minutes for checkout as one person was cooking the breakfasts and dealing with other tasks. Should be priced at no more than £40 per night even in the expensive South East. Better hotels at cheaper rates are available in this part of the world
Grubby and Outdated
We had the misfortune to stay two nights.
Having been there before about 25 years ago we expected a comfortable relaxing stay in an idyllic setting. How wrong we were. The only good thing left is the setting. Our room had peeling wallpaper and a very basic bathroom which had a musty smell. The extractor fan did not work and was clogged with dust. The 'restaurant' which used to be superb was run down with dirty carpet, stained and torn chairs and a leaking ceiling. I had the misfortune to sit on a soaking wet chair which my trousers immediately absorbed. The bar area was a little better although I suspect the subdued lighting helped a lot. The menu is limited and the same every day. Too tired to find anywhere else we ate there the first night. It was at best average and not good value. There are far better and more reasonable places in the local village. It looked like the whole place had not been touched since our last visit (25 years). The owner gave the excuse that they had bought The Mill about a year ago and were only very slowly doing it up due to lack of funds. It is not reasonable to expect paying guests to tolerate this sort accommodation. If we could have found somewhere else locally at short notice we would have done.
