Good value

You don't pay a lot for the rooms here but they are clean and tidy, everything worked so it was a good buy.

The Highwayman used to be a pub with a reputation for drunks - nothing has changed.

Hotel accomodation was fair, comfortable bed and a clean room but certain things rather spoiled the visit. Firstly, no matter how quietly you try to close room doors, they boom and resonate which is annoying late at night. I decided to visit the bar just before closing time and had to walk past a customer who was urinating against a post on the patio in front of his friends male and female. In the bar, a couple of drunks were holding a shouted conversation and the barman joined in using a couple of words that are not found in the dictionary. Drinks were paid for and "put in the fridge"

I was also set back by the cost of a pint of lager which was £3.45 (but I have spent the past 12 years up North so this price may be the norm nowadays down South)

Finally, couldn't order my breakfast because the lady was apparently busy in reception. My order was eventually taken by a waitress who couldn't take any money but at least took my order to the kitchen. The food, when it arrived was good. Not the best hotel in the world but at £42.50 per night for 2, it served it's purpose.
