Location fab

Stayed at hotel for 2 nights.

Hotel obviously used to be very grand but is looking a bit tired now. We had a lovely big room but the carpet was threadbare and the bathroom window was held open by a block of wood. The beds and bathroom were very clean but windows were not. We only stayed on bed and breakfast basis and there was plenty of food and it was hot. Location is ideal but can be noisy on a night because of taxis and road at front is pedestrian only during the day. Car park is on a first come first served basis but NCP is near and hotel provided a reduced ticket. Reception and housekeeping were very helpful.

A potentially lovely old hotel.

It was let down by being so shabby - holes in carpet on stairs, wallpaper peeling off etc. Also by the lack of cleanliness. The first room we went to was definitely dirty - the carpet hadn't been vacuumed and the bathroom looked as if it hadn't been cleaned. Reception staff didn't seem very surprised when I complained and allocated another room. This one was better but there was a cigarette butt on the floor in the corner and the window had to be propped open with a block of wood!
