About the hotel
The White Horse is a busy town-centre pub, with restaurant and bed and breakfast facilities, in the historic town of Maldon close to the Blackwater Estuary. The open water, mudflats and saltmarsh provide one of the most important habitats for wildlife in the UK and are a fantastic resource for walking, boating and fishing. The pub warmly welcomes newcomers and tourists whether they are seeking a relaxing drink, a tasty meal in the pleasant restaurant or an overnight stay in one of our seven rooms.
The restaurant-quality food is largely traditional English, with a delicious roast dinner always on the menu, and all the herbs used in the dishes are grown in the small courtyard. Entertainment includes darts, poker nights every Thursday and live Bands Friday and Saturday nights.

Very outdated pub with rooms.
I booked a cheap one night stay and that is exactly what you get.
Room only, breakfast is extra and I had departed before serving time so did not sample. Very basic lacking any sophistication but ok to get a nights sleep. No on site parking, had to pay in local public car park, no little side streets to tuck into. The other thing that put me off was it was Cash Payment only - no cards accepted so had to pay a visit to local cash point !!!!.
Old and dirty room. A place to avoid.
Room not clean.
Furniture very old. Wallpaper peeling off the walls in places. Bed had a thin sheet over a bare and very old mattress. Electric heater looked dangerous - rusty along the top. Although there was a fire exit along the corridor and down a wooden staircase, you would not be able to get out if there was a fire in the corridor. The window has wire mesh over the glass and a sheer drop onto two air-conditioning units/wall/concrete. The window 'probably' opened but it was falling apart and had a screw type catch on the opening. When we arrived, they would only accept cash to pay for the room (£70). They would not take switch or any bank card and we didn't get a proper receipt.
