About the hotel

The White Horse is a busy town-centre pub, with restaurant and bed and breakfast facilities, in the historic town of Maldon close to the Blackwater Estuary. The open water, mudflats and saltmarsh provide one of the most important habitats for wildlife in the UK and are a fantastic resource for walking, boating and fishing. The pub warmly welcomes newcomers and tourists whether they are seeking a relaxing drink, a tasty meal in the pleasant restaurant or an overnight stay in one of our seven rooms.

The restaurant-quality food is largely traditional English, with a delicious roast dinner always on the menu, and all the herbs used in the dishes are grown in the small courtyard. Entertainment includes darts, poker nights every Thursday and live Bands Friday and Saturday nights.

Saturday Nights

I arrived and was unexpectantly informed that I had to pay cash.

I had to go to a cash machine and get cash. Interesting sign on wall in bedroom which said no food to be eaten in bedroom - always a first. I was not told that the band would be playing right under my room. There was a notice in the restaurant that said it would play from 10.30 until midnight and in fact it did not finish until 0.30 am with noise going on for approximately a further 30 mins or so it seemed outside after the band had packed up. The noise of the band was so horrific that my ears were still sore as I drove off in the morning. It could be an ideal place to stay weekdays but I certainly would not recommend it if you want a quiet night on a Saturday

Maldon - White Horse Sep 15

Simple Pub accommodation.

Stayed room only. Booked in a rush so hadn't realised room was not ensure. Also hadn't check if parking was sensibly available; pay & display is free 6pm to 8am, I guess you could run out early and buy a ticket. I didn't look so not sure if website explained this. Arrived around 8pm had to get cash out of local bank as they don't take debit cards; strange as that's what I had to use on the website. Evening meal selection ok.
