5AA Assessed Guest House Ratings explained
Van Lane, , , Godalming, GU8 4HW
Whatever the occasion, whether it be a long weekend away or a lakeside wedding, the warmth and depth of Hambledon House and its many facets will leave you feeling at ease and at one with the surroundings, whilst the many antiquities & curiosities on show and culinary fragrances from the heart of the house will draw you in. It is a place that very few people only visit once... Hambledon House is set in stunning grounds right in the heart of Hambledon village in the Surrey Hills; a stones throw from Haslemere, Godalming and Chiddingfol, and just 55 minutes from Gatwick Airport. The area is steeped in history with many famous people choosing it as their launch pad to London. The composer Edward Elgar sought refuge during the war in nearby Petworth; the writer Aldous Huxley was born in Godalming and spent great amounts of time cycling and walking at Hindhead and around The Devil's Punchbowl, a place of immense beauty; Beatrix Potter had a holiday home near Guildford; Barnes Wallis who invented the bouncing bomb used during the Dam Busters raids lived nearby; the playwright George Bernhard Shawe lived at Hindhead; the list goes on. Within 20 mins in any direction you have RHS Gardens Wisley, Petworth House, Lurgashall Winery, The Devil's Punchbowl at Hindhead, The North Downs; and right from the doorstep a plethora of footpaths and bridleways that disappear into the surrounding countryside. Check-in is between 4pm - 9pm .
