Is this even a hotel?
From our arrival: skip outside, discarded chairs outside, and nobody to be found inside at all amongst the (?) abandoned furniture, and general run down appearance, we were worried.
Shown to our "small double" room we were immediately "upgraded" I.e. We had about a foot of extra floor space. We were grateful until we realised our new room was gross. Scum lined the shower, the mirror was covered in marks, the floor wasn't clean and to top it all off.... No electricity. We were late for the event we were attending by this point so thought we Would sort it on our return. Nope. No staff to be found, in fact we were advised by the guy who "welcomed" us to just leave the keys on the side, by the unlocked front door, wide open.
So we go out, come back, go to bed. No complaints here, hotel was reasonably quiet given the close proximity of other rooms, however our morning was not without further drama. No electricity still meant our phones wouldn't charge for journeys home etc, the milk for our breakfast had gone off, and to top it all off... The teeny dribble from the vile shower was freezing cold. We gave up in the end and went to a nearby pub to get some proper food and charge our phones.
One of the worst places I have ever stayed in
I expected Chumleigh Lodge to be basic, after all we were in Finchley for £75.
All we needed was a clean, comfy place to stay but this place could not even cover the basics. We arrived at about 6.30pm to a closed front desk and an envelope with a key, seemed a little early to not be met and there were no directions to our room but after wandering round a couple of floors we found it. The floor of the room was dirty particularly with sticky marks round the fridge, we wanted a shower before going out to dinner but the water was stone cold. There was some cereal laid out for us, a nice touch except there was no milk in the fridge so I'm not sure what we were supposed to do with it. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, we could feel the springs through the mattress and although the bedlinen seemed clean enough it was tatty and ripped, I spent the night getting my foot tickled by a rip in the bottom of the bed sheet. You could hear every single noise in the place from people moving around to the smoke alarm on the landing that beeped every 20 seconds ... all night. ..... to top it off the cleaner tried to come into our room at 8:30 the next morning when checkout was not till 10:00. To our surprise the reception was still locked up when we tried to check out with no bell or sign where we should knock, in the end we had to ring the hotel number on our mobile to get someone's attention. Should I really have to try so hard to pay for such lousy service. In the end we left tired, hungry and feeling like we were going a bit insane. B&B. this place is an absolute joke!
