About the hotel
Alfred's Lodge was built in 1901 at the end of the Victorian era. All our rooms in the Victorian section of the house still retain the original fireplaces. We have some on site parking and free wi fi access to all bedrooms.
Whether you have a wedding or a party to go to, are seeing friends or just want a relaxing break, Alfred’s Lodge provides quality guest house accommodation and is the perfect place to stay. As we are located only 3 miles from Lains Barn and Ardington House wedding venues, we are ideally situated to look after your wedding party. Flexible and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. We can organise restaurant bookings and arrange taxis on request. Our breakfasts are wholesome and hearty and are cooked freshly to order to ensure a happy start to the day. We enjoy providing any alternatives such as vegan, vegetarian, gluten free. You only have to ask. Ideally situated in a quiet residential area, we are only minutes away from the busy town centre of Wantage where you can enjoy a coffee whilst looking at the interesting architecture of the town. Whilst here you can visit the Vale and Downlands Museum, have a light lunch in the Alfred's Head pub with its interesting garden, enjoy a Thai dinner at Yummies, dance the night away at Shush nightclub or take the car up into the hills of the Vale of the White Horse. The Ridgeway is only a couple of miles away so we are perfectly situated for walkers and bikers alike. Well behaved pets are also welcome. Lovely room and very comfy bed.
Alfred's Lodge, would love to keep it a secret its that good
Stayed here for work for one night when the hotel the company normally use was full and the other local ones I have used in the past were full too.
Fantastic find, straight to the top of my list when the usual hotel 3 miles away is full. Very friendly and welcoming reception, showed to my room and everything pointed out. Alfred's lodge is very homely in the best sense, I felt properly at home there. The bed was very comfortable indeed and I had a fantastic nights sleep. All the rooms facilities were good and the bathroom was modern, well equipped as with the room immaculately clean. Breakfast was superb, I had the full English which was lovely, the sausage was great quality and very tasty, three well cooked and tasty bacon rashers accompanied by mushrooms and beans and toast. Clearly the ingredients were top quality well cooked and delicious as a result. You would have to be incredibly picky to find fault here and quite unreasonable as this is reasonably priced B&B accommodation in Oxfordshire not a hotel. Thanks for adding yourself to my list, I will be staying again. Ian Mountain.
