About the hotel

The Sun Inn, nestled in the heart of Faversham’s conservation area, was built in the 14th century and has a wealth of character and original features, including inglenook fireplaces, oak beams and a courtyard garden. Hospitality is a long-standing tradition – today’s licensees can trace the names of their predecessors all the way back to 1608 – and visitors can soak up the atmosphere while enjoying traditional Kentish fare and comfortable accommodation. A short stroll from the Shepherd Neame brewery, the Sun Inn serves distinctive Kentish cask ales in peak condition.

There is also a good choice of food to suit all tastes, to be enjoyed in the bar, the courtyard garden or the newly-refurbished restaurant. With eight comfortable bedrooms, the Sun Inn makes the perfect base to explore Faversham, Canterbury and the Kent coast or is an entertaining stop-off for travellers en route to the Dover ferry terminals.

Hot room

The Sun Inn is well located and a pleasant old building.

Young staff helpful and friendly. We had an excellent meal in the evening in restaurant ( the kitchen had just sorted a table of 24 and were very organised). The only downside was our room, booked very late, Room 2, was above the kitchen with extract duct in wall. It was extremely hot and we couldn't sleep. An air conditioning unit would sort the problem. Area outside kitchen and bottom of stairs to the guest rooms needed a good clean.

Bed was like concrete!

We appreciate we were staying in a pub, but standing at a busy bar with bags not knowing where to check in, didn't get our stay off to a great start.

Once we'd ascertained we had to check in at the bar, Rob, who showed us to our room, was really helpful and gave us lots of information about our stay.

The room was small but very tastefully decorated and it was nice and warm. There were lots of toiletries and generally it was pretty well stocked with tea, coffee etc. Breakfast the next morning was lovely - freshly cooked to order and the cafetiere of coffee was superb. The biggest complaint was the bed. I've never slept on such an uncomfortable mattress and I woke up several times in the night, aching. We only managed to get just over 4 hours sleep because it was so uncomfortable and for that reason we wouldn't stay again. I would rather stay further out and have to pay a cab fare in the hope of a better night's rest.
