Room - the mattress was the most uncomfortable we have EVER slept on with springs sticking almost through the cover.
A dribble from the shower. Food - my Portuguese fish stew was very nice but everything else we and our two friends had was below par. Breakfast not served till 8 am which was too late for our plans. The "continental" breakfast put in our room was unpleasant. All the surfaces through the hotel seemed sticky from the bar to the dining tables to the tables in the snug. E mailed my comments to the hotel but no reply. Staff all very pleasant and helpful though. We are well seasoned travellers and are quick to praise and seldom fuss when we are mildly disappointed. The fact I am driven to even bother to write this is an indication if how poor our stay was at the Crown. It's a great shame as it's a lovely old building let down by lack of care and attention. If you do choose to stay here get a room away from the High St - very noisy till all hours. Our one and only visit......
