Me and my husband stayed here for our 7th wedding anniversary, we go somewhere different each year.
We will definitely visit this hotel again one day. The staff were fantastic, nothing was too mush trouble. The room and hotel were gorgeous, very old with uneven floors and huge beams, just what we love. The central location is brilliant, it does make it a bit loud but I can sleep through anything and he uses ear plugs. The bathroom was a little tired but everything worked and the shower was good. The food in the restarsunt was second to none. The best fish and chips I've ever had and my husband said the same of the sausage and mash. All in all a lovely stay; my husband wanted to move in!
Bit shabby and a few issues but the staff are lovely
We've stayed once before and had a lovely room but unfortunately this time the room we had was not good.
I'd say no 20 is to be avoided at the moment as it really needs work.
The radiator was missing a thermostatic valve so we couldn't turn it off, and despite the handyman putting a valve on after the first night it still wouldn't turn off so we baked both nights. The other serious issue was the toilet which leaked onto the floor every time it was flushed. The handyman's fix for this after the first night did work but they really need to do something more permanent than that temporary bodge job, and at the very least replace the lino which is stained - presumably from the ongoing leak. There were lots of less serious niggles like the lack of a shower curtain, the weak shower itself, the missing wardrobe door handle and the general shabbiness. It was clean despite the shabbiness and problems, but it really needs serious work and I'd not want to stay in that room again until the work is complete.
On the plus side the staff are universally friendly and helpful and the price wasn't bad.
