We travelled down from the north ,and hadn't been to this area before but the hotel was excellent and staff couldn't do enough for us ,would stay there again.
We took friends there who we had met up with and again they were impressed as we went for evening meal.excellant
A brilliant hotel, very close to a lot of places, very friendly staff and well worth the money!
Staff rudeness and noise
we asked for a quiet room, but when we got to it was overlooking the reception entrance and when I went back to reception to change rooms, they said there will be no wedding noise as the guests are staying over night, so they won't be making any noise and the disco is on the other side of the hotel.
Well, I can tell you the bass music pumped our room until nearly 1am and every coming and goings on outside kept us awake, the DJ packing up equipment in his van went on for ever and I reckon the music could have been turned down a little because the wedding party music should not have got to the rooms like that. We ate in the restaurant and the food was actually nice enough, but the 16hr cooked steak although was nice, the sauce was so reduced it was rich and salty, plus not enough of it, by just coating the steak. I ordered the peppercorn sauce and even though it never went with the dinner it help matters for me, the mini leaks were tough and neither of us could eat them. When we walked out of the restaurant there is a door to the kitchen to which you can hear all manner of noises and voices going on unrestrained. I stood and waited for my partner to catch me up and heard a woman say (must have been the waitress) 'they've left the restaurant now', then a man say 'I cooked that steak so it is meant to be like that, who the 'eff' needs to order more sauce for their steak' or something like that and they continued on this discussion and swearing. kind of ruined by the staff not being understanding to the guests needs and ensuring that their stay is not interrupted by noise and staff rudeness.
A good deal
Nice room, but little things were annoying, slow bar service was one.
The staff tried but seemed to be over stretched. Another thing was being awakened at 5 am by delivery lorries, after the third one which was delivering gas canisters, we gave up and went for breakfast (at Whetherspoons, £2.99 instead of £12+ at the hotel). We then had a mix up over the bill which we had already paid. Would I go back, yes if I got another great deal, I would ask for a quieter room!
I made a reservation via laterooms.com for a 2 night stay last weekend at this establishment.
When we arrived at the hotel, I was expecting a 17th Century manor house as was described on the website. Instead, only one small part of the hotel actually looks as though it is 17th century, the rest of the hotel is pretty modern.
We made our way to the reception desk and I presented my card and authorised a booking fee for £150.00 which was the agreed room rate that I had booked. No mention was made of the money being frozen in my account and me having to pay a further amount upon checkout.
When we checked out on Sunday, we did not use the express checkout as we had had a meal at the hotel and drinks on our first night of arrival and we knew that these had to be paid for. At this point as far as we were aware, the room had been paid for so you can imagine the surprise of both myself and my boyfriend when we were presented with a bill of £217.00 to pay and were advised that the money had not left my account, it had been frozen. We pointed out that the money had been taken from my bank account and I showed the girl at the reception the transaction on my mobile banking app yet she was still expecting the full amount to be paid at check out. My boyfriend fortunately had enough money in his account to pay the full amount for his birthday weekend but I can’t help wonder what would have happened if he did not. I then spoke to Legacy hotels in relation to this and they advised that even though Hellaby Hall is one of the hotels under their chain, they were unsure of the policy regarding billing. After several calls between the same receptionist, myself and the chain of hotels it transpires that their policy is merely to freeze the money in your account but not take it out. They further advised that it would take up to 5 working days for the money in your account to be unfrozen. I informed them that they had actually overcharged us for the rooms on checkout and the receptionist at Hellaby Hall denied this depiste the fact that they had provided an itemised bill and I could provide the item numbers to them. Overall, this has ruined what was supposed to be a surprise birthday trip for my boyfriend. The policies are ridiculous and the staff are less than helpful. I would highly recommend that this hotel is avoided.
Lovely pool, great location room was outdated
We enjoyed our stay loved the hotel itself but our room was old fashioned with peeling paint etc.ive read on other reviews there are much nicer rooms than this so wish now we had asked for a room change.
Having said that the room was spacious and had the required facilities it just didn't have a four star feel. The pool area was lovely.
Hmmmmn just not very good at all.
Bit of a nightmare stay really.
Did not have a key to our room as they keycard making machine was broken go two days. (An engineer could have been out in hours) This really impacted on what we could do.
Attended a charity function and the drinks were massively over priced and served by massively untrained and unsupervised staff. It took my friend 2hrs to get the bottle of white wine he asked for and it was a warm £5 plonk being sold for £20.
"An ice bucket" yes it's a bucket that you put ice in to chill the wine. ( I literaly had to say those words about 4 times)
Not one single glass was cleared from our table and then they could not serve drinks as they ran out of glasses.
Tried to bring this to the attention of the manager in the morning but they could not even be reached it bothered to come to reception.
Maybe ok for a night but do not book an event there, your guests will probably kick you in for it.
A little pricey for what we got but perfectly reasonable hotel
Relaxing night away
Spent a relaxing evening away in one of the 'executive' rooms, checking was easy enough, receptionist was very helpful and room was of good size and large bed.
Enjoyed the pool facilities, which despite being a Saturday afternoon were not too busy, only real negative was the hot tub was a little cool. There was a wedding on during my stay and did not hear excess noise from it or in the corridors late in the evening.
The staff were helpful , the rooms were comfortable, good value
