Comfortable and good service
Only here for one night but no complaints - stayed in an executive room which had nice space and a few added extras which added to the charm.
Location super for my own business needs but also in general - loads of nice places to eat, gardens near by and handy for the train.
Room 501 was particularly nice (colleague stayed in this room while i was in 507)
Dated and Dull! Just OK. . .
Upon arrival I was rudely greeted by the receptionist, whom it pained to look up from her computer to speak to me.
There were some issues with taking payment, and when I said I believed payment had already been made, she snapped back 'Have you got a statement to show me?' gesturing at me. Unfortunately I didn't have, and therefore contacted someone at home to find my statement. She was correct, and payment had not been taken, but I feel this matter could have been dealt with much quieter and discretely, particularly as the lobby is open to all those also seated outside and in the bar. It's hardly something to shout about. Upon arriving up at the room, it was OK. Clean. I have an issue where the toilet is separate to the bathroom, but there is no sink in with the toilet?. In my eyes, this is a hygienic 'No No!'. Regardless, it wasn't detrimental to the experience.
After a long night and tired feet, I climbed into bed, only to find that the sheets were ripped and torn. This was disappointing. It was also chilly in the room, and the heating didn't do anything when I altered the temperature. I requested extra blankets which arrived. I was brought a duvet (without a cover) and with a suspicious 'yellow' stain. Needless to say, I would rather shiver!
trip to Crucible theatre
lovely hotel, perfectly situated for the snooker tournament at the Crucible, just a 4/5 minute walk,(if that) nice friendly staff and nice breakfast, note, its a buffet style breakfast but good quality, I would say the best buffet of all the previous hotels we have stayed in, thick curtains in our room which blocked out light so easier to sleep.
all good, would easily stay again
Great location, friendly staff.
Pool was very small.
Very friendly staff and helpful too.
Great hotel perfectly situated.
The hotel is just a short walk from the railway station and perfect for the theatres( literally just round the corner for the Lyceum and Crucible).
All the major shops are nearby. The room was spacious and had all you could wish for. The toilet was separate from the bathroom. The breakfasts were first class and served from 6am to 10am. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Everything you need for a short stay
This was a last minute booking to see a show for my partners birthday, I booked the executive queen room with sofa bed , it is perfect for a short stay or even a run of a few days, the room was immaculately clean , well equips with coffee maker , tea facility, hairdryer, music state , tv etc ..
Comfortable bed and the staff where very helpful throughout our stay .. Would highly recommend for a city getaway . Great value for money as it has more facilities than a lot of the higher prices rooms in other hotels ..very happy :)
This is a lovely hotel in which to relax in a quiet friendly atmosphere, All the staff are helpful and the service offered is perfect.
I was very happy with my stay.
I stayed in the hotel for a weekend whilst I was up visiting some friends.
As I know the city well I knew that the Novotel was perfectly situated for my needs. Upon entering I was checked in within minutes by Rob who was perfectly helpful. The room was clean and well-presented. I purchased breakfast for both mornings; I was seated and offered coffee immediately. The food was good and there was plenty of it. I also ate in the bar on the first night, and as I had signed up to the loyalty club I was given a 10% discount on my order.
What truly sets this hotel apart are two things; the layout and the location. I entered from the front entrance on Arundel Gate and once inside I knew it was a place I would stay in again. The lobby is spacious and open, sparsely decorated and without clutter. The restaurant and bar are immediately visible, and the whole area catches the light well. I found it to be extremely welcoming and I don't remember having to ask where anything was, as I could pretty much see everything.
The hotel also sits in a fantastic location. A stone's throw from the station, it is extremely well-served in terms of local amenities. The main high street for shopping is minutes away, as are the bus and tram stops for those wishing to travel out of the city. My room faced out onto Arundel Gate and in my opinion offered an excellent view of the diverse range of edifices Sheffield has to offer. The hotel sits across the road from Sheffield Hallam University which has seen much modernisation over the years, but Sheffield is a city that has not lost its sense of history and that was evident every time I looked out of my hotel window. Now I'm sure that all the rooms don't offer views this interesting but as this was my first stay in the Novotel I couldn't have been happier with it.
Overall an excellent stay in a hotel that I can wholeheartedly recommend. The next time I visit this fine city, these are the accommodations I will seek out.
