3AA Assessed Bed and Breakfast Ratings explained
41/43 Treyew Road, , , Truro, TR1 2BY
Family run by Darragh and Michelle, the Donnington Guesthouse caters for business travellers, those on holiday and all other visitors. We take pride in our reputation for friendly, personal service and traditional Cornish hospitality, whilst offering good value for money. All rates include a full cooked breakfast and parking. The Donnington can accommodate up to 28 guests in 14 rooms across two elegant Victorian houses, and offers lovely views over the Cathedral and surrounding countryside. All rooms have en-suite facilities or private bathroom. They also have tea and coffee making facilities and a flat screen TV with Free-view and DVD player. Most rooms have fridges and iron, ironing board, hairdryer and microwave can be provided on request. All rooms are non-smoking. The Donnington is a 10 minute walk to the City Centre and close to the train, bus or coach stations. It is also ideally located for the Royal Cornwall and Duchy hospitals, County Hall, records office and Truro College. Conveniently situated on the A390, it is the perfect base for visiting the Roseland, Eden Project and Falmouth and is within easy access to the main A30 for West and North Cornwall and Newquay Airport. Cornwall’s many dramatic coastlines, historic country houses and beautiful gardens are less than a 30 minute drive away. Our rate is per night per room which includes a full cooked breakfast. The breakfast comprises of: -tea, coffee and fruit juice -cereals -yoghurts -preserves and toast. -sausage, free range egg, lean back bacon, grilled tomato, mushrooms, baked beans and hash browns. Any balance of payment outstanding should be made by cash or cheque on departure. Regretfully there is no facility to take credit/debit cards on the premises. As we are family run, we are not staffed 24 hours a day in the same way as a hotel and so we appreciate the approximate time of your arrival.

Overall, good value. However....
Arrived at and entered spacious car park easily accessed from the main road. As it was raining heavily it was quite disappointing to find both front doors locked and no response to several rings of the door bells. I eventually spotted a hand written note on the floor next to one of the doors indicating to call a mobile telephone number. I did this and a lady promptly answered and granted me access. I was asked to complete a guest registration form which had clearly written on it 'We do not accept card payments. Cash or cheque with card only'. This wasn't a problem for myself but may have been for someone arriving late in the day for a one night stay as they could have needed to go and find a cashpoint. The breakfast area was quite small. On the second morning of my stay I went for breakfast only to find it was full so I went back to my room for 20 minutes and waited until other guests had vacated. My room was spacious, very clean and suitably equipped. The only real problem was the large dormer sash window overlooked the main road which meant traffic noise is a problem. Light sleepers would be well advised to contact the venue to establish the orientation of your room before booking.
Overall, at the price I paid, I would say the stay was excellent value for money. If I had paid full price I would have been far less happy especially as the electric shower decided to deliver only cold water 4 minutes into my shower.

WiFi
I was disappointed that there was no wi-fi as I booked on business and did not check before hand so maybe it was my fault for not checking.

Home from home
Very impressed, as a guest house I wasn't expecting a lot but it had more to offer than most hotels. The room/furnishings were a bit dated, but it was an excellent stay, good sized room, facilities very good (fridge, hair dryer, tea and coffee, power shower, additional heater) breakfast was very tasty and plenty on offer, the staff were very accommodating and friendly, the view from the room was exceptional, and was not to far from the town centre. Thank you for a lovely stay. Would defiantly recommend staying here.

Donnington Guest House
Excellent value. Easy to find, but quiet with car parking & easy walk to City Centre. Room was clean, warm with good en-suite & facilities (decor was a little 'rough') and breakfast excellent.

Friendly welcome, great food, large, clean, bright, warm room. Comfy bed.
Good facilities, good value for money, good location. Free parking very useful in Truro.
Room and fittings could do with some repairs but nothing major.
Good value for money, would recommend.
