A Hotel of two halves
We stayed in one of the rooms that have not been updated.
It was basic to say the least - peeling wallpaper, curtain with a cigarette burn in it, no bedside lamp and the only plug socket was in the bathroom. The style of décor is straight out of the 1950's. BUT the location is fantastic - so close to the main station and the two main museums - and the staff are really helpful
Great location and very cheap price
We stayed here for 3 nights, and although the room was very basic and felt quite old, it was unbelievably cheap for the location.
It is just on the edge of the centre, and everything is in walking distance. Metro stop just round the corner if needed. The room was medium size with 2 double beds, and it had an en-suite with shower which was ideal. Safe was provided at a cost of 1 Euro per use which was handy. There was a small balcony so at least you were able to open the doors and get lots of fresh air in. You do get what you pay for, but for such a cheap price (circa £20 per night) we felt this was extremely good value for money.
One note though, the roads outside are very busy, and there's a lot of noise through the night, whilst this didn't cause us too many issues, but if you are a light sleeper be aware of this. (we were on the top 5th floor also) We used ear plugs and it was fine.
I note that the lower floors were under renovation, so once modernised I suspect this will be a lovely place to stay. If you are after 4-5 star then this isn't for you, but if you are after a good location at a very cheap price, with a clean but old room and friendly staff then I don't see how this could be bettered.
Very good room, very nice, helpful staff.
Very convenient, being right in the centre, only downside the noise of the traffic incredible all night, never stopped, hard to sleep. But that's Madrid not the fault of the hotel.
