3AA Assessed Hotel Ratings explained
St Mary Hill Pencoed, BRIDGEND, CF35 5EA
The magic of St Mary’s is in its unique combination of buildings which still retain their Old World charm. Situated in 150 acres of parkland and nestled in the Vale of Glamorgan, the clubhouse was originally a stone coach house. The16th century farmhouse with its thick stonewalls and beamed ceilings blends into a sophisticated extension and beautiful courtyard. The 24 ensuite bedroom luxury hotel has modern furnishings and fittings, free Wifi throughout & ample free parking. There are 2 dining areas: La Casa de Ferranti that overlooks the golf course and Rafters Restaurant; its name originating from the oak rafters that can be seen throughout the restaurant. There are two bars, a ‘spike’ bar and a lounge bar. In addition we have a conference suite, an 18-hole championship golf course, a 12-hole Kingfisher golf course, chipping and putting greens, changing rooms and a golf shop. St Mary’s Hotel provides a relaxed and informal atmosphere, an ideal surrounding for business or a relaxing break.

Excellent stay!
Booked St Mary's as it had good reviews and looked very nice and we were not disappointed! Great spot, lovely countryside and beautiful setting for a golf course, excellent room, spa bath and shower ensuite, lovely cosy room good bed and had nice view to the golf course. Staff were exceptional; friendly, courtesy was their byword and nothing too much trouble. We couldn't fault anything at St Mary's. The breakfast was brilliant, such a choice too. Full English was piping hot, great taste. Had a game of golf on the 12 hole amateur course, (never done it before, brilliant, £5 per person, great morning in the sunshine). Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely visit again. Thanks to all Staff.

Generally OK, but shame about the tea!
This room, in conjunction with the others I have stayed in recently at St Mary's, was excellent, apart from being far too dark. It was still very gloomy with every single light on. Please fit brighter bulbs immediately and fit additional lights asap!
The breakfast was OK, but tea had to be ordered and came as a singlr tea cup with hot water and a tea bag floating about in it. The coffee, by comparison was a proper jug of filtered coffee that guests helped themselves too. Come on St Mary's! invest in some tea pots, or if you have to use hot water in cups, provide a self service hot water boiler, with properly boiling water, together with facilities for disposing of used tea bags!

Great stay
Great bargain last minute stopover. Good helpful staff, food excellent, breakfast tip top. Will use again in the future, only complaint is the roads leading to the hotel made my white car dirty in the rain with the mud ha ha ha shouldn't have bought a white car. Many thanks all the staff.

leisure break
Generally good with the house wine a particular plus for quality and price, and food itself diverse and decent quality.
Bit let down by slowness of service in restaurant - seemed unable to cope with preplanned parties without leaving other customers hanging. Two menus - bar and restaurant, but difficult to get hold of latter even when specifically requested. Too much rushing around and not enough organised actual waiter/esses.
Breakfast good but don't bother with the dry croissants, and be prepared for them to run out of basics lime grapefruit segments and danish pastries - or even bread one morning (other than white supermarket sliced rubbish)

March 2013 visit to St Mary's Hotel
Nice room, quite spacious with comfy bed. Ate at the hotel two nights running and the food was excellent and very reasonably priced.
En-suite needed regrouting in places but was generally clean.
Very helpful staff who bothered to check and contact me when I lost an item of property.
