Boars Head Hotel
We were pleased with this hotel and its central location in Carmarthen.
Customer Service - A positive of the hotel was that even though there was a mix up with the booking, there was no problem - instead of a twin room we got two single rooms for no additional cost or fuss.
The Room -
In the room you can hear the road outside quite a lot, although I may just be sensitive to hearing noise outside the room as I live in the middle of nowhere. Also my bed was extremely squeaky and uncomfortable so I woke up about every half an hour. Was a bit disappointed as I from the website the place seemed much nicer However, another positive was the bathroom was quite nice and modern and the hairdryer was very good. Staff- Some of the staff were lovely but others seemed a little disinterested and when I asked if they could book a taxi for me (as it stated they could in the information packs in the room), they did not but told me that I should call the taxi firm in advance rather than just before I wanted it. As well as this they just didn't seem to want to talk to me and kept on directing the questions to the other member of my group even though I was the one who had booked, was speaking to the member of staff and was paying for the accomodation (and so was the only one who could answer the question anyway).
Food - The choice in breakfast was quite wide although I only tried cereal, juice and a yoghurt. These were all very pleasant and the member of staff taking orders for breakfast was very attentive and friendly.
I have tried to be fair in my review, as there are both positives and negatives from the experience, although the poor experiences with the staff did upset me a little and would prevent me from staying there again.
Excellent cost roomie accommodation
Boars Head Hotel
Just the place for a short stay and B&B when visiting Caermarthenshire and pembvrokeshire.
Conveniently central in the middle of the town. Friendly reception and the breakfasts were very good.
Didn't arrive until 10pm because of work.
Would of liked to of been there longer. The bar looked like a cosy place. Several options for breakfast. Quality and quantity good.
Good Value for Money
Manager was very accommodating given that my wife has mobility problems, ground floor room with "disability friendly" en suite toilet / shower room [hand rails etc.] Breakfast was more than adequate with choice of Full English or Cereal/yogurt and fruit.
Reasonable selection of "pub food" on lunch/ dinner menu.
It was horrendous, from start to finish.
The noise inside our room was unbearable, and all night. Staff were pretty useless. dinner was poor and breakfast was a shambles. If you're reading this, stay as far away from The Boar's Head Hotel as you can. Made Fawlty Towers seem realistic. Just awful, would rather stay in a hostel than stay here again.
Enjoyed my stay
If you are looking for a place to stay for 2-3 nights or even an overnight stay then this is the place to choose.
Well run establishment run by friendly people. The grub was good and not expensive and they serve Guinness on tap which is and was great. En suite bathroom was spacious and modern, bed comfy.
The only thing that annoyed me was that I ticked the box for a room which I can smoke in when booking. When I got into my room I could see a No Smoking or else you get a £150 fine. Having to walk up and down three flights of stairs every time I wanted a smoke was irksome. Other than that it was all good.
We had an excellent stay.
Really good value for money. Thank you for the friendly and professional service.
No problems at all
Took a few minutes for someone to come to reception and check me in, but other than that, perfect - no problems at all
