Reccy for ramblers walking event
Felt that all the positives of the hotel let down by the breakfast
the standard breakfast(just that) no better or different then much smaller star ratings.there was a menu sheet for breakfast but that was not on the tables only one morning that would have given a little more "lighter" meal such as porridge kippers omelettes
we asked for ham omelettes every day but right away told no ham only bacon and why not have a small variation such as ham/tomato/cheese because as i say very basic breakfast in what both village would see as lesser standard hotels.
pool area very good and we were there to reccy for the ramblers walking holidays and the location of the hotel great with walks near to the hotel, to chester and towards hoylake as well on the ferry on the southport liverpool coast as well as ellsmere port village etc
i contacted the hotel that i was doing this holiday to reccy for what for us would be about 50 people for at least a week. I thought someone form the hotel would reply but they did not do so and when i arrived expected, as other hotels have done, in various parts of the country , on the day say here are some areas of interest.
because we may want to expand a holiday there to recommend to the ramblers likely to come back again area) but may be with more regional walk leaders.
what we do is big business now and a small amount of attention ie not give a room facing internally would have helped as well
lots great about the hotel but would be put of by the food as outlined., if that is typical of the hotels other meals, and i had 50 people seeing poor choices and expensive would not be god.
in my opinion this village not as good in these terms as their sister hotel in hull
thank you

Very impressed
Customer service and general friendliness of the staff was amazing, among the best we've experienced. They were so helpful and polite! One room was upgraded unexpectedly so were very happy about that. Room was clean and breakfast was good quality. Only negative point I have to say is that the carpets in hallways need replaced and the lighting in our room was poor but for what we paid we were very impressed otherwise :)

Great room...until night-time...
Myself, my partner and our 8 year-old daughter stayed on the Wirral in a family bedroom. I was going out at 7pm not to arrive back until 04:30 the following morning. When I got back my partner was still awake and said the noise and vibration on the walls was deafening and sounded like a helicopter was constantly hovering overhead.
I went back down to reception and spoke to a man, who looked into a folder and opened to a page entitled "Issues with air-conditioning". He stated that nobody has complained before about room 119. I told him to come and hear for himself.
Now with this in mind I fear that there is an obvious problem with noise as they even keep a specific folder for this very purpose!!!
So at about 05:00 I showed him in and the noise was still there. He mentioned that it was the air-conditioning or fan system for the squash courts or something...
He did ask why my partner didn't use the phone and call down to reception earlier - but she said she hadn't realised the phone was there (it was on the other side of the bed on the bed-side cabinet hidden by the pillow)...
I also told him that the toilet was constantly running after flushing and the pipes were constantly vibrating as it leaked. He pulled off the flush cover and fiddled with the lever to stop it but it didn't work.
He said he would go and switch off the fan for the squash courts - to which in about 5 minutes the fan stopped and the vibration noise ended...
BUT after 20 minutes it came on again and every 5 minutes for about 5 minutes duration the fan came on and off until we had to get up.
So not a very pleasant sleep and we were all tired and not rested at all.
Also throughout the night my partner stated that people were shouting and screaming and slamming doors constantly - of which I experienced this at about 05:30...
After breakfast we gathered out things and head out. I informed the reception about the complaint and there was nothing even written down about my night complaint (which you'd think there would be) and she informed me there was nothing she could do and that I'd receive an email about the stay and if I fill it out with the complaint the hotel manager would do something "at their discretion".
So did we enjoy our stay?
No, not after that! And at £129 for the night you'd expect to have a quiet, comfortable night's sleep and wake refreshed - and not expect a noise-induced nightmare of sleep deprivation...
So my recommendation is if you are a family then do not stay here as it seems more catered for groups of friends, wedding parties and those who are only there for exercise placements...
It felt akin to a place that considers heavy drinkers and party-goers than a relaxing clientèle...
My recommendations are based solely on the experience.
I feel that the staff at the hotel were not very service-friendly and would prefer that any issues are raised via the rating emails like this - to which I'm sure nobody except potential clients will ever read...
At least with certain other hotel chains you are guaranteed a peaceful sleep and they actually do cater for you be it by moving you to another room or compensating for the inconvenience. So I'm not sure what will happen here and the problem I have is I might not be able to amend or update this review if anything does happen...

The rooms are tired
This hotel really needs renovating. The bedrooms were very tired and need to be freshened up. The external appearance of the hotel is excellent, but disappointing when you reach your room.

lovely break away. Stayed June 2014
Nice hotel with very friendly and helpful staff.
Had breakfast for both days of our stay and the selection was good.
Had a meal in the Restaurant on the second night and it was lovely, portion sizes are good. Drink service, however was a little slow, 1st drink came in a reasonable time however had to cancel the 2nd drinks order, as we had finished or meal and it still had not come. The staff was fine with this and apologised for the delay. The bill came and the drinks were on the bill, but once we told the staff, they removed it straight away and apologised again.
Perfect location for a shopping trip to Cheshire Oaks or a trip in to Liverpool.
The bus stop is just on the main street and they come on a regular basis, which made our trip in to Liverpool a lot easier, no need to worry about parking in the city centre etc

One night stay
We stayed at this hotel whilst visiting my poorly dad in hospital. Loud noise in all common areas from bar areas, casual language from staff (you guys alright?) but polite.
Room -bed comfortable with a mattress topper on it, TV had no timer or menu facility on it, disappointing on a hotel room of the standard given as superior. We paid £85 through LateRooms but it showed as costing £200+... There was coffee making facilities and an iron and ironing board in the room, but the fan in the bathroom wouldn't turn off so had to keep the door shut so we could sleep. We also found the water wasn't very hot when we ran a bath....
Breakfast - very disconcerting head on the middle of one of the tables in the morning, rather distasteful and gruesome I thought. Full cooked breakfast available, as well as fruit, pastries, yoghurts etc.
This hotel is part of the Devere group, and more suited to the younger traveller, or those preferring a 'hip' environment! Made us feel old and uncomfortable!

The hotel was first class and offered a lot of quality facilities.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The hotel offers a variety of activities and has a lot of facilities including a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, steam room, sauna room included in the price as well as a eat all you want breakfast. You can also pay a little extra in the beauty salon.
The bar was good and had televisions where you could watch football. There are rooms where you can have wedding receptions and parties. There are regular events such as tribute nights and bands which the hotel also provides special offers on weekend breaks. The gardens are lovely and the car park is large with free parking for guests. There is a large selection on the food menu and the food is cooked well by their chef. The weekend was very enjoyable and the hotel price was good which was provided by LateRooms.com at a special offer rate.
