About the hotel
The Star is situated in a historic part of Southampton. Numerous parks and the shopping centre are easily reachable. The train station is a 20 minute walk away.
In immediate proximity there are docks where a lot of cruise ships leave, including the ferry to the Isle of Wight. In the early 18th century many members of the royal family lived in the hotel. The Victoria Room recalls a visit from the duchess of Kent and later Princess Victoria in the year 1831. We do not accept children under the age of 18 unless accompanied by an adult

Arrived in a rain storm and soaked before getting to reception.
Lent a hairdryer. Charged for parking. Not mention when booking. Smelly room. Paine and wall paper peeling . Worst bed I have slept in. Springs almost coming through the mattress. Tea and coffe good. No air con but a fan provided. Bathroom ok but shower very small. Water very hard to control temperature. Did not eat her. Would not stay again.
A Nice, Simple Hotel
The hotel is nice, but looks quite dated inside.
Being an old building, it has many staircases and many narrow corridors. It felt like a bit of a maze to find my room, but it was well signposted.
Location is great, right on the High Street with a number of bars, shops etc as well as the nice historic pubs in the old town, all in easy reach. Public transport is very accessible just a street away is Castle Way, a street pretty much filled with bus stops. About a 5 minute walk down the High Street is the ferry terminal and Mayflower Park, right by the sea.
Good facilities. The tea and coffee making facilities were good and there was a lot of wardrobe and drawer space. However, there was no signal on the TV for any channel and the "hot" and "cold" signs are the wrong way around on the shower tap. I was wondering why it wasn't heating up set at the highest temperature, so I turned it to cold and it immediately heated up.
