Good but could be better

I stayed here for one night with my son for and event at Stoneleigh Park, the room was clean and comfortable and perfectly adequate for our purposes.

I booked a meal for us in the restaurant at 8pm as I was told it was imperative to book. We were the only diners and had to watch staff walk to and fro laying up the other tables for breakfast. I found this unprofessional as I really don't want to see the "machine in operation" . The food was adequate, but nothing to write home about. The hotel is in a nice setting and I imagine their main source of revenue is weddings, but it really needs bringing up to modern standards as it's looking tired and a little unloved. A positive note to end on, we had an after dinner pint in the little bar at the rear of the building (I'm sorry I've forgotten the name) where the bar man was friendly and helpful and we felt we could have comfortably stayed all night.
