No executive room as booked & noise and more noise
On arrival we were allocated 316 - a very small room.
I was not offered a newspaper as is included the Executive room rate nor did the room come with a large tv, artwork, bath robes or slippers - it was the smallest room I have ever been allocated in 4* hotel. In other words it was not an Executive room.
My wife and I returned to the hotel just after 10pm and retired for the evening. Unfortunately, they had a function taking place and all we could hear was the thump thump thump of the disco music. The very loud music and the speech of the DJ was audible in our small room and sleep impossible. We put up with this until 11.45pm - having driven from Harlow that morning we were tired and wanted sleep (the point of checking into the hotel?) - as instructed the documentation provided when we arrived I contacted the Duty Manager to complain about the noise. Frankly he did not want to know - he apologised and then told me he could not do anything as they were "his guests" - I assume we were not "his guests" and did not count. Our lack of sleep was of no interest to him whatsoever. He further told me the noise would continue for at least 30 minutes but maybe an hour - that is until 00.45 - quarter to one in the morning. It did go quiet at approximately 00.15 - I then drifted off to sleep at around 01.00. Unfortunately, we had been allocated a room amongst the party goers and they started to come back at 01.15 - shouting nite nite, laughing and giggling and door slamming so we was woken up. We got off to sleep again only to be woken again by another bunch of party goers doing the same thing at 02.00 (2am!)- I was just about to go out and confront them personally when it went quiet. I then had some 4 hours sleep before another door banged. It was a disgrace. We have had better sleep in a Travelodge. On checking out I asked the receptionist what is the difference between a Classic and Executive room - he told me as above and confirmed that we had received none of the usual Executive inclusions. I was then asked to wait for another Manager. He apologised and offered a 25% discount off our bill. I pointed out that we had been in a Classic Room and been charged for an Executive one so this only reduced the bill to where it should be. After some drawn out deliberation he reduced it by 50% but I pointed out that we had had a ruined night and the room was not that we had booked. Moreover, the staff had kept quiet and allocated me with a Classic Room but were quite happy to charge for an Executive one. I said I found this attempted deception to be very distasteful. He then claimed that 316 is an Executive Room!. I challenged him on this - querying why no art, newspaper, large tv, bathrobe, slippers etc. The Manager took all the charges off our room and said I would be contacted on Tuesday. However, I contacted Hotel Manager by e-mail before preparing a review and, despite his auto reply saying he was in the office, I have not had a response.
