The Kings Arms Hotel dates back to the 18th century, when it was a coaching inn known as the Hotel on Hide Hill. The ground floor and gardens of the Old Town Assembly Rooms were stables and accommodation. The hotel had famous visitors such as writers Charles Dickens and Lewis Carrol. By the end of the 19th century, the Kings Arms became central to the town's social life and was a base for the merchants and traders of the former corn exchange at the bottom of Hide Hill. Shame about the refurb!

The staff in this hotel are lovely -helpful, warm and friendly.

It's just a shame the 'refurb' on the hotel has been done for 'style' and not 'quality'. The design of the bath has you hopping in and out of it because its side is just too wide for comfort and the taps are lethal -I very nearly broke my finger trying to turn one on. A sad case of design over practicality which sums up the hotel itself. At first glance it looks boutique hotel style, sadly poor quality finish has left it with uneven floorboards under nice new carpets, dodgy bathroom fittings (oh the shower attachment also dangles of the wall in a peculiar manner!). It's a 'cover up' job:(

Plus side -beds were very comfy and it's in a brilliant location. We had a fab time in Berwick because we were there to have fun and appreciated more than anything the warmth and helpfulness of the staff. Just don't stay here if you're expecting luxury!

The Kings Arms Hotel

Very central and easy to find.

The receptionist was very helpful and informative. Room was immaculate, with plenty tea/coffee etc. Would stay again.
