About the hotel
Winner of the Merthyr Tydfil Tourism Business of the Year 2010. The Mount Pleasant Inn is a family run bed and breakfast business which offers the facility of a licenced bar and restaurant. Our guests enjoy traditional Welsh hospitality and a warm welcome.
Nestling in the picturesque Welsh countryside but in a semi rural location the Mount Pleasant has undergone a period of extensive refurbishment. The gardens overlook some breathtaking scenery. Locally known as "The Black" The Mount Pleasant Inn is steeped in history. Its name is attributed to its links with the Black Lion Sidings, which once controlled the endless stream of coal leaving Merthyr Vale Colliery. Now the valley has returned to its former beauty we can offer an array of attractions for all types of guests. We are a 5 bedroom; fully en suite family run, family friendly B & B accommodation located 18 miles from Cardiff and at the gateway to the Brecon Beacons National Park. Ideal for walkers and cyclists; we are adjacent to the famous Taff Trail; 10 minutes from the Welsh International Climbing Centre and the area is renowned for hand gliding and paragliding. Among the many guests to stay at the Mount Pleasant Inn we were pleased to welcome members of both the Welsh and English Fishing teams Merthyr Tydfil was once the Iron capital of the world and is rich in culture and hosts a catalogue of attractions including the famous route of the first steam hauled railway journey by Richard Trevithick in 1804,Cyfarthfa Castle and the Brecon Mountain Railway The atmosphere is warm and friendly here at the Mount Pleasant, yet efficient. Our menus are changed frequently to take advantage of seasonal and local produce, and to offer more variety. We would be delighted to see you and can assure you that your stay with us will be a very pleasant and enjoyable one.

What a Gem "Try the local Brew"
I booked my stay quite late in the day as I was travelling, I booked my stay on past reviews.
They were so right, fantastic hosts, extremely clean accommodation, a warm and inviting place to stay. I couldn't fault any part of my stay, my room was spacious with a great En-suite and very comfy bed. The food was excellent and the service brilliant. Such lovely people who work so hard ensuring that everyone has a great stay.
Clean accommodation but unremarkable food and friendliness
Having informed the owners of my late arrival of 23:00, I arrived at 22:45 to a fairly cold welcome and felt chastised at arriving so late.
Room was clean, however and well appointed, with Galaxy hot chocolate, though the size of the cups was barely adequate for one...you really should provide mugs as hot chocolate (as you provided) merits something bigger than a small tea cup and there was inevitable spillage. It would be thoughtful to provide a sheet under the duvet as some people do not like staying in hot rooms and some prefer to have the flexibility to just have the sheet on top. Having brought this up with the owners, was told sheets were only provided in the summer (my stay was late May and certainly warm enough). Breakfast wasn't amazing...opted for the continental, so didn't try any of the full English, but the croissants and pancakes were poor quality.
