About the hotel
Winner of the Merthyr Tydfil Tourism Business of the Year 2010. The Mount Pleasant Inn is a family run bed and breakfast business which offers the facility of a licenced bar and restaurant. Our guests enjoy traditional Welsh hospitality and a warm welcome.
Nestling in the picturesque Welsh countryside but in a semi rural location the Mount Pleasant has undergone a period of extensive refurbishment. The gardens overlook some breathtaking scenery. Locally known as "The Black" The Mount Pleasant Inn is steeped in history. Its name is attributed to its links with the Black Lion Sidings, which once controlled the endless stream of coal leaving Merthyr Vale Colliery. Now the valley has returned to its former beauty we can offer an array of attractions for all types of guests. We are a 5 bedroom; fully en suite family run, family friendly B & B accommodation located 18 miles from Cardiff and at the gateway to the Brecon Beacons National Park. Ideal for walkers and cyclists; we are adjacent to the famous Taff Trail; 10 minutes from the Welsh International Climbing Centre and the area is renowned for hand gliding and paragliding. Among the many guests to stay at the Mount Pleasant Inn we were pleased to welcome members of both the Welsh and English Fishing teams Merthyr Tydfil was once the Iron capital of the world and is rich in culture and hosts a catalogue of attractions including the famous route of the first steam hauled railway journey by Richard Trevithick in 1804,Cyfarthfa Castle and the Brecon Mountain Railway The atmosphere is warm and friendly here at the Mount Pleasant, yet efficient. Our menus are changed frequently to take advantage of seasonal and local produce, and to offer more variety. We would be delighted to see you and can assure you that your stay with us will be a very pleasant and enjoyable one.

Home from home stay
Having arrived late, about 8.30, was welcomed by the owner and shown to my room.
Went downstairs and was greeted by a comfortable lounge, friendly welcome and nothing was too much trouble in organising a dinner for me. Meal well cooked, plenty of it and a lovely log fire going. Breakfast was plentiful, well cooked and all I can say to anyone thinking of going, you will struggle to find a more friendly guest house/hotel and such quality food, would love to stay again.
