Good Room

When I saw how busy the pub was downstairs, I was apprehensive, but my room was actually very quiet and peaceful-I couldn't hear any noise all night.

A good hotel for an overnight stay. Staff were INCREDIBLY helpful and accommodating to me, if I could have given them a higher rating than 6 I would have. I didn't have time to eat there, but I saw people getting their meals in passing and everything looked incredible.

OK for a night as long as you know what to expect.

We arrived at the Salfords Arms in the rain and wondered where check in was.

Asked in the pub, to find that's where we checked in, at the bar. Rather awkward to be paying on arrival with someone serving pints at the same time. And the whole place smelt of chips. The manager (I think) was very helpful and offered to show us to our rooms and explain the rather complicated door entry system.

Door entry was explained and the secret code imparted (and saved to our phone before we inevitably forgot it), we headed up a very steep and narrow staircase, to find the shared toilets to the right (there are none in the rooms, take note, as our friend who booked the hotel did not, much to my horror when I found out!), we noticed the 'water feature' to our left in the hallway. Massive crack in the ceiling which had clearly been there some time, with a bucket catching the drips. Onto the room. 3 non moveable single beds, a shower in one corner and a sink. Looked reasonably clean, unlike our friend's room on the next floor that had a tumbleweed of dust in the corner that had clearly been gathering for a while. Blind on the window which didnt really keep out the light when closed.

We had a pint in the bar to 'take in our surroundings' and briefly perused the menu, which in fairness looked ok and there are signs that they are at least trying to improve the pub downstairs.

We were meeting friends for the evening so were out till approx 2am at which point we discovered the joys of navigating the door entry system. The keypad kept registering every button press more than once and therefore refusing us. Fortunately the manager was still around and came and assisted. Beds were actually quite comfortable and we were not disturbed by noise or anyone kicking us out the next morning, although we were gone more or less by checkout time of 11am.

To summarise:

Ok for a night as long as you know what to expect, but with other hotels in the area charging similar, I'd read the reviews carefully before deciding.

Good points:

Helpful staff

Central location

Pub downstairs if thirsty on arrival

Shared toilets

General state of the upstairs

Complicated entry system after hours

Door lock on room did not feel at all secure
