Gluten Free Disappointment

Room on refurbished 3rd Floor.

Good things - sound proofing excellent, bed comfortable but small, bed linens and choice of pillows good. Décor pleasant. Scrupulously clean common areas and corridors.

Bad things - room stifling hot, air conditioning had to run all night because not able to ventilate the room and open windows. Toilet vanity had wrong placement of tap difficult to use, shower head poor quality + water pressure to bathroom terrible. Wet room would have been must better option as bath very high elderly would have had issues using it. Bathroom so so claustrophobic, horribly small, should have taken space off of bedroom, we thought very poorly designed. Should have put in king size rather than double beds. Doors closer needed adjustment. Disappointing hot drink selection in room. Barrier to car park was broken which meant the locals were taking advantage of free parking and guests found it difficult to find a space. We were lucky but saw 2 other cars with patrons in unable to find a parking place. Breakfast excellent quality but bacon + egg but had been displayed under heat lamp too long. Please consider identify/label gluten free products. GF bread not available even though we had raised with the front desk the night before. GF bread was provided but inevitable delay whilst it was being "defrosted".

Only a couple of options for GF food available for dinner. Steak was excellent quality, super food salad heavenly, chunky chips memorable. Not disappointed by the quality of the food but the choice was so meagre. Wine list pretty good but would suggest that all wines are offered by the glass, we had to buy a bottle of rose. Having said all that we had the most delightful service at dinner and breakfast from the lovely Ada who couldn't do enough for us. We would not have ventured out to eat if there was more GF choice on our second day's stay. Our experience and inter-action with this lady alone would encourage us to return, we've rarely received this level of attention or service, most impressed. I would come back and I would recommend hotel to friends because I thought this was good value for money for a centrally based hotel in a very very popular tourist area of the UK. In need of refurbishment

All of the staff I encountered or dealt with were pleasant and efficient.

The public parts of the hotel were up to a high standard, however the room(1053), was very tired. The light fittings were tatty, one of the bedside reading lamps didn't work,the bathroom was shabby, and the extractor didn't work,and finally the bed linen didn't fit either the mattress or the duvet.
