About the hotel
Passionately restored throughout by local owners, our 360-year old stage coaching inn is now enjoying a much deserved renaissance combining years of tradition and history with contemporary style, creative cuisine, superb wines and warm hospitality to create a truly unique atmosphere! We’ve even kept the creaky floorboards! All our individually styled bedrooms, suites and four posters are admired by everyone from the business guest to the honeymoon couple! Elegant high rooms with large windows contrast with pretty ‘cottage’ style rooms with exposed beams and leaded windows. Period antiques and original features are complemented by flatscreen TVs, wi-fi and fluffy duvets! Restful shades from a traditional palette are enlivened by sparkling chandeliers and an array of rich silks and damasks with elaborate beading. Relax on comfy leather sofas by crackling log fires in the winter or have drinks on the Terrace Bar in our extensive gardens in the summer months.
Dine in the black and gold elegance of our oak panelled Restaurant 1650 or the rich claret ambience of the St Leger Bistro-by-the-Bar with its racing memorabilia. A renowned venue for weddings, parties and celebrations of all kinds! Extensive conference facilities from a smart boardroom to spectacular suites for up to 250 delegates. Set on the border of three counties, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire & Yorkshire, Doncaster Racecourse, Sherwood Forest, Clumber Park, Lincoln Cathedral and Meadowhall Shopping are all on our doorstep! Close to the A1, M1, M18 & M62, we are also within an hour’s drive of Doncaster, Leeds, Sheffield and Nottingham. Robin Hood Airport and Retford Mainline Railway Station are just a few miles. If you haven’t visited us for some time, you’re in for a wonderful surprise and if it’s your first time, it is sure to be one of many! So whether it be business or pleasure, do come and see us very soon!

First class accommodation, service and food.
We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay at this lovely hotel.
The room was spacious and comfortable, as was the bed. Staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful throughout. The food was excellent and we hope to return in the not too distant future. This was good value for money!
Nice period hotel
I thought the hotel was very nice inside with antique furniture and mirrors everywhere.
There was an open fire in the lounge. The bed's headboard had lions carved into the wood. You need to bring your camera as it is really nice inside. The food & drink was pricey. It was 4 miles from Retford town so you needed to drive. The was not my first choice as it was more expensive than some of the other hotels but I booked late as had to go to a funeral so had no choice to pay up.
