Positive *There was a private car park to the rear of the hotel, which was great.

The hotelier let us leave our car there after we had checked out so we could spend the day in Edinburgh. * The distance from the city centre was only a 5 minute walk

* The hotelier was pleasant (although he didn't introduce himself so i have no idea of his name!)

* The hotel itself was very pretty and the rooms were warm and well proportioned. There was a lovely stained glass window on the staircase. Negatives

* The room was ok but not spotless. There was hair on the mantlepiece and on the carpet and the toilet had a couple of suspect marks. The silicone sealant round the shower base was mildewed and could have done with replacing. * On arrival the hotelier said hello, gave me the room key and number and told me where the breakfast items were. He didnt tell me his name or where the room was, personally it felt like i was interrupting something. * The breakfast was complimentary cereal, which is fine we don't really go in for big cooked breakfasts. Although I was offered toast, when I got it it was already stone cold. The cereal, milk and orange juice were all fine. Overall we had a pleasant stay here, we used the hotel as just somewhere to sleep, going out during the day and also eating out.

I think with a little more attention to detail in the cleaning and a spot of maintenance it would have been perfect.

Basic but clean

Room was what we needed, basic but clean and comfortable.

Within walking distance to pubs and shops and not too far to walk to the city centre (15-20 mins)

Quirky and comfortable

The decoration is definitely pretty unique, with some parts needing a bit of extra attention, but overall the room was very comfortable, had plenty of storage, everything worked and very well situated.

It's a bit of a walk into the centre of town, but very easy to Arthur's Seat and the bus stops practically outside if you're going a bit further.

En-suite problems

Very disappointed as we thought we were booking a bedroom with en-suite bathroom.

In fact a small corner cupboard was the 'shower room.' the W.C was wobbly, tiles loose on floor, step up to small shower caused problems. An unpleasant experience. Bed was comfortable though. Were booked to stay 2 nights but couldn't face it. Manager quite helpful & suggested we could change rooms however One night was enough..

Perfectly placed for a short walk to the city

A very nice friendly atmosphere, and very helpful.

In an ideal location just on the edge of the city, We would recommend and will certainly go back again.

The Mayville Guest House

Friendly welcome, well located within walking distance of city centre and with off road parking.

Room slightly dated, shower needed re sealing, unable to shut window. New mattress would be advisable. On the whole excellent value for money.
