broken bed frame
bedside lights not working, poor mattresses, no chairs to sit on which left the beds as the only alternative and they were very low to the floor.
shower had poor water flow. someone's washing left in the room prior to our arrival and had to be removed as we entered. I had a feeling that this long narrow room (beds positioned at either end of the room) was rented by a regular customer during the week and rented out during the weekend.
Great location but room needs major upgrade work
We booked for our silver wedding & chose this hotel for its location.
On arrival we were met by a young lady who was very unfriendly & showed us into room 8 opposite reception in the basement. The credit card machine isn't working for payments - had to pay cash for the break & receipt scribbled on a piece of lined paper with no hotel name, just a date and the amount paid - looked very unprofessional. First impressions were of a large but gloomy room which we put down to the weather. No wardrobe just a three drawer chest & two bedside tables plus a hanging rack on the wall
On closer inspection we found the bed to be broken - at least five slats on the side nearest the bathroom were loose & three had come out completely & were resting on the floor - the bed had been changed & nobody had noticed. These continued to come out at various times during the night leaving the mattress hanging through the gaps. Room was lit by two up lighters & a table lamp - no central light on ceiling, shrubs outside of window need to be cut back to allow light into room, bed was too close to window - curtains were too long & created a trip hazard for husband who nearly fell onto the radiator a couple of times during the night. Several extension leads trailing round the edge of the room powering different pieces of equipment including an extension reel beside the chest of drawers, all of which are covered in dust
Room not serviced for duration of our stay - 'not got around to it yet' was reason given on Tuesday afternoon. Breakfast was very poor - on our first morning we went round at 9am to find cereal, bread for toast & a couple of slices of cheese & cooked meat. No egg cups for eggs provided & on second & third mornings we didn't bother & got breakfast in town. Only positive point was wifi & proximity to the city centre - 10 mins walk to Waveley station
A very disappointing stay for what should have been a special break
