Mixed Bag

I've known this hotel for many decades but only recently stayed in it a couple of times.

It's got some good points and a few things that just let it down.

What's Good:

Friendly helpful staff ++

Value for money on accommodation especially if you get a deal

Very nice bar, conservatory style dining area - nicely kitted out

Function room is quite nice tho needs some pizzaz

Good showers

Comfortable enough beds

Flexible and accommodating attitude to meeting customer needs

Food in restaurant is good if a bit stodgy sometimes - great chips tho.

Freshly cooked hot breakfast - but why no Stornoway black pudding when it's on the dinner menu.

Free wifi - well done. Not so Good:

It's as if they ran out of money for the refurb when they got halfway through doing the bedrooms.

Bathrooms particularly need redecoration and HEATING. It's freezing - and wee bits of damp as a result

Cheap chipped woodchip barely covers the walls

Mismatch between styles ) carpets / curtains v bedding and pain/artwork) in rooms

V small TVs in rooms

The slightly annoying local dialect explanations of dishes on the menu - and if not familiar with local dialect it could be worse than annoying.

The mark up on really ordinary wine like the Pinot Noir felt like a rip off :-(

My 'soaked in booze' trifle - wasn't. Could not discern any sherry at all and the custard tasted like tinned and the cream possibly not fresh cream - disappointing - but sticky toffee pud an ice cream delish

Having to ask six times in 2 days for the too loud intrusive music in the lounge //dining room to be turned down so we could have a conversation.

Would be nice to slightly expand breakfast menu to include porridge, fresh fruit, yogurt - healthier option

No disabled access to bedrooms

To sum up - if they can find a way to complete refurb upstairs and improve a few aspects of quality of food this would go from being an ok 3 star to a really good one.

Reference the room.

The room was clean and tidy. The television was far too small and kept losing the picture.

One of the curtain's had the first 2 or 3 hooks come of the rail, but has the room had a very high ceiling i could'nt put them back on the rail. The rooms are cleaned every day, which i find rather nice. The shower was very roomy cosidering i'm rather on the large size, which is a great plus in my eyes. The bed was also very comfortable as well as being large. The food in the restaurant very tasty and well presented,i also enjoyed the breakfast meals which you choose the night before. The staff i found very welcoming and extremely helpful. The only fault is they don't have a lift,on the plus side the stairs are very shallow so are easy to climb if you are slightly disabled. The hotel is situated about 200yds from Southbeach railway station if you want the train to visit Glasgow, which me and my wife found very handy.

Pleasant Hotel

I enjoyed the two days spent at the Lauriston Hotel, the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent.

They even went out of their way to contact me when I left an item in the hotel on check out. Very comfortable.

tired hotel

this hotel was quite run down and the receptionist seemed to be at a loss that we had a booking there.

We had booked it on line about 6 months ago. Staff seemed to be paying more attention to other matters in the hotel than their guests at the reception. Looked like a building site outside. That said lovely big room but no heat on, Would not be inclined to stay there again.

Expensive Room

Very tired and in need of decoration.

Ensuite bathroom not the best, dirty floor, extractor fan not working and toilet system not secure to the wall. This room was really not worth the money charged. The staff however were very good.

Great food

This was a great surprise.

The room was fine and I could see the sea which always add atmosphere. Top class was the food and service. I paid Premier Inn prices for a much more pleasant stay full of character, and much more relaxing. Will use again at that price.

Wonderful View, Amazing room, Get for some chill out time

The Room we were given was a family room, which was huge with a beautiful big bay window looking out over the seafront & beach, Lovely comfortable beds, and quiet hotel.

Perfect for just relaxing. Great staff, really helpful and understanding after our super-delayed arrival.
