The George Hotel
Comfortable overnight stay.
Good meal in the pub.
A Hotel to avoid
The food was good and the staff we met were friendly and approachable, especially the mother and daughter who work there.
Room No4: was absolutely attrocious. Cobwebs, the window was filthy and had bird droppings on the inside. Both duvet covers were torn. Carpet was badly stained. The whole room was in need of redecoration. Bathroom: Ceiling above bath was covered with mildew and damp marks. The shower head was filthy with accumulated dirt. Shower control unit was limescaled and leaking. Towel hook by shower was hanging off the wall. Bidet taps were loose and leaking. Toilet pedestal was covered with hair and accumulated debris and was permanently leaking. Washhand basin taps were loose.
Nice accommodation in a lovely town
Avoid this hotel
The hotel is very quirky and the room we had was very wonky which was a nice change from the usual identical sterotype rooms I in modern hotels.
However the room was very dirty and the carpet heavily stained and we kept treading on what appeared to be sun flower seeds and mud or concrete. I k now we stayed over Halloween but the ceiling looked like it had been sprayed with cobwebs and was especially bad around the windows and the windows seal had bird dropping inside. I wish I'd read the reviews on TripAdvisor before we booked or we would not have stayed there.
One night stand
Pleased to get an immediate and unsolicited upgrade to a lovely Room 8 with a four poster bed.
Bar food supper and service were excellent, breakfast too.
Loads of character
The George Hotel is a fascinating place to stay.
Don't expect boring, box-shaped rooms - this hotel oozes character as befits its location in a pretty village in wonderful, pictoresque countryside. We had a lovely stay and the staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
This has got to be one of the most beautiful villages in Oxfordshire.
The George is full of old world charm with good food and friendly bar staff. I was in room 5 and I slept like a log. I was awoken by the bells of the abbey ringing(what a marvellous way to wake up). So what if there is no double glazing, the village is that tranquil you don't need it. I would recommend this hotel.
The `George` is certainly not an `Hotel`, `Old Coaching Inn` would be more appropriate.
There are no `Residents Only` areas except for the dining rooms, which I must say are outstanding. There were several minor issues with our room;
Neither of the radiators could be controlled. the thermostats were broken. There was only one security bolt on the outside door. The other was broken. The extractor fan in the bathroom did not work. Only half of the light bulbs were working. The chandelier did not work at all. I appreciate these points are relatively minor and could easily be corrected with regular maintenance. However, over a period they become a nuisance.
Lovely hotel, great staff and beautiful area
