sharp and trendy, noiseless nights allowing restful sleep on the river bank on sumptuous bedding.

This was a 50th Birthday treat for my wife.we purchased a deal with laterooms, otherwise would have felt let down if we'd paid more than the £468 for two nights in junior suite room 117.

We were initially delighted by the spacious luxurious surroundings of our room and the 'ballroom' size of the bathroom.however a horrible note stuck on to the beautiful bathroom tiling was nearly as offensive as the message it carried, vandalising the architects design of the room.. "Jacuzzi broken,do not use"

hardly a 5 star apology, when we complained,we were politely reminded that the booking confirmation stated 'some rooms with jacuzzi baths', so therefore tough, nothing they would do. They could in fact have informed us prior to our arrival ,and enquired as to our our agreement,

or they could have provided a more subtle/5star apology with a note stating,

"we are so sorry that the jacuzzi is still not working, and hope that this doesn't diminish from your enjoyment of our facilities,as a gesture, please enjoy the bubbles from the complimentary bottle of prosecco provided"

No handmade soaps or expensive toiletries here either, just the 3 star,'screwed to the wall' useless dispensers at the bath and shower which spill everywhere other than into your hands, definitely disappointing. Normally we expect along with complimentary beverages in a 5 star facility, some handmade chocolates as well a bottle of both still and sparkling water, a half bottle of white and red wine, some crisps and shortbreads,,however everything here has a cost other than tea and coffee. We requested use of an iron and board and eventually gave up waiting on them and borrowed them ourselves from a neighbouring room ,clearly the message didn't get to housekeeping. The bed and bedding were sumptuous and we enjoyed two restful nights sleep. The carpeting however requires deep cleaning as remnants of a previous guests over exuberance have obviously ( but not to housekeeping) overspilled around the coffee table. On the first morning breakfast was a fiasco due the the shortage of staff, to be fair the scant staff ran around like headless chickens trying to keep up with demand, but this overspilled into guests hanging around uncleared tables reminiscent of a school canteen whilst wondering whether they should just clear stuff onto other tables. We didn't have the cooked breakfast and are glad we hadn't paid the extra,as it looked like tasteless 'kept warm' fair.

The continental breakfast was disappointing in comparison to other establishments and was just adequate,a few tubs of yogurt were re-fridgerated at the furthest point from the fruit and cereals hiding behind the breakfast Que of diners, so we missed them completely on our first morning. The spa facility seems like an after thought here and just isn't worth mentioning , other than to say,if this is one of your priorities, try Peebles or Crieff Hydro instead. Can I suggest a management visit up to Cameron House,on Loch Lomond or a trip across to The Turnberry Hotel in Ayrshire might enlighten staff on the fineries of five star finesse. All in all we did enjoy our stay but are unlikely ever to rebook at the published rate of £638.

Ps the photos of the spa are cleverly taken without the vulgar yellow and black health and safety taping evident to the reduced height ceilings showing, nor reflect the limited space given to the facilities.

Lovely, friendly, luxurious hotel

I stayed overnight at The Rafayel on the Left Bank in May 2013 and had a lovely stay in a gorgeous room.

The staff were happy to provide me with fresh milk for my tea immediately. Following a minor misunderstanding about the shuttle they were happy to drop me off straight away. Altogether a lovely place to stay and I would go again.

A great experience!

I used this hotel as a luxury break for myself and my partner after a day in London.

I could not have been more happy with the room or service provided to us.

I made a specific personal request for the room for a special occasion, the staff were more than happy to help while also ringing to confirm my expected arrival at the hotel. Overall a great experience and I would recommend to anyone for a luxury hotel.
