Our stay for business
The hotel is a really good find.
The rooms were excellent and great value. The view from the car park when we got there was amazing in the evening sunshine and the staff were all very helpful. The rooms we booked were all very good, new and clean. The decor of the bar and restaurant was a bit dated but it wasn't the end of the world. We didn't eat in because my colleagues from Europe wanted to go to a good old English pub. This place is a real find and the pictures on the website don't really do it justice
Having decided to take ad-hoc romantic breaks in Derbyshire we booked into this hotel and were impressed by the friendliness of all staff, and the general feel of the hotel.
Pleasant position (although on a main road (ish)). Plenty of parking and quite breath-taking views of the amber valley. lovely rose garden for a glass of cold wine in the sun. Our room however (Churchill Suite at £130) left us feeling a little disappointed. The bath was huge and all was reasonably clean if a little tired. The kettle wouldn't reach to the socket and so had to be put on the floor to boil, the radiator thermostat was broken, there were only blinds on the windows which didn't cover them completely or block out all the light, nor the views of the neighbouring pub into our room. The décor of the room seemed to have no theme either in style, colour, or anything else and seemed as though it was a mismatch of leftovers. A large picture of Churchill staring at you as you lie in bed is a little disconcerting, and as for the bed.... This was the most squeaky bed ever (and this room is sometimes used (apparently) for bride and groom!!))
All in all, it was a nice place, good food, just a little TLC in the room needed.
