About the hotel
Following a stunning recent refurbishment the White Lion Hotel now gracefully combines ‘olde world’ charms with a contemporary look and feel. All of the rooms (including family and superior rooms) have been delightfully re-furbished to provide guests with flat screen TVs displaying over 40 digital channels, hairdryers, tea and coffee making facilities and new luxurious beds and bedding. Guests can also make use of the function and conference facilities, complimentary WiFi and the restaurant, serving quality fresh food sourced from the best suppliers.
The pub remains the heart and soul of the White Lion Hotel and food is our speciality. The enhanced environment, combined with a fantastic new fresh food offer, allows guests to enjoy either a meal in our bar, or for more of an occasion dine in our restaurant. Diners and drinkers alike can also enjoy one of our many real ales or wines selected from around the world. The town itself has been described as ‘the Jewel of the Weald’, with wide tree lined streets, historic buildings, inns and a host of specialist shops. Out and about there are picture postcard villages to explore, manor houses and gardens, and of course, Leeds Castle, set in 500 acres of parkland.

Food disappointing, cramped room
Have stayed here several times in the past, but this was our first stay since refurbishment.
Room was cramped, bedside light not working, and a solitary cooling fan could not cope with the heat. It was previously a very characterful pub, but much of the character has been lost with the recent makeover.
My dinner was poor especially the "triple cooked chips" which were in reality a soggy, oily, undercooked mess. Full breakfast no longer included in the B&B rate, but now available as an extra. Although the location of the Hotel is excellent, the changes made and poor food make it an "OK' rather than preferred choice for the future.
Expensive stay for average accommodation
On arrival the restaurant was very busy and having worked in the industry in the past I understand it can be challenging to manage all areas with a smile under pressure.
However, the male manager who greeted us appeared grumpy and couldn't really be bothered - 'a fake warm welcome'. When seeing us to into our room he seemed more concerned to check his reflection in the mirror. The lady who checked us out was much more professional and friendly. The room was spacious and generally clean. The bed was lovely and comfortable. I think the room should provide some additional basic comforts for the money paid (£110 p/night). Such as flannels/ iron and ironing board and basic information on the pub/ room etc in terms or check in/out; wifi; general welcome and brief evaluation form of stay. The cookies were a nice touch from the chef but no idea how fresh they were. Free parking was a benefit. Breakfast provided a good selection and the staff were friendly and attentive. For the money paid a full English could have been included. We would possibly stay here again.
