In need of a little TLC

On arrival the hotel reception and bar restaurant looked quite nice, but the hotel does have a few issues that need to be addressed...

there seemed to be only 2 staff members on duty for the whole reception bar and restaurant, the young lady who came to reception when I pressed a bell was polite and friendly enough but did not give me any information regards restaurant serving times, breakfast serving times, WIFI info etc, she simply processed my payment, gave me a key and gave me basic directions to my room. the room itself was a little grubby.... wall paper peeling off one wall... large dirty marks on others, bedroom wood work (melamine or whatever the wood effect was) peeling off showing the chipboard underneath. the bedside lights and controls were very old fashioned, the bathroom seamed clean but very tired. the bed was very firm, great if you like sleeping on a hard bed, but unfortunately my back did not appreciate the firmness next morning.

On a positive note....the bar meal I had was quite tasty as I decided against the very limited restaurant choices and breakfast I opted for simply toast and fruit (which was a nice varied choice) so I cannot comment on the cooked breakfast options.

Go for a Premier Inn instead

We arrived to no-one at reception for ages despite ringing the bell a few times.

When we left the desk was empty again and we had to seek out staff who carried on talking to people and didn't seem to care. The duvet cover had a stain and all the doors strangely have scuffs and bad paint on the bottom of the outer doors like someone kicks them. It made the halls look scruffy and the carpet is old and tired in the halls. The room was fine apart from the stain but nothing special and not as spacious as Premier Inns/ Travelodges. The restaurant was empty and the bar area had a couple of people only so no atmosphere. The smokers are allowed to smoke outside the front door so it was unpleasant walking in past a group of male guests all smoking.

Overall, not worth it.
