Holiday Inn - restaurant disapppoints
Accommodation remains consistently good.
However, since I last stayed some months ago, the Pierre Marco White restaurant "Wheelers of Saint James" has closed and has been replaced by a very dull "Bistro" which was a disappointment. Don't expect interesting food.
Half way stop over
While making the pre-Christmas trip south to see family this was the ideal half way stop over.
Slightly disappointed when we arrived at 8.30pm to find reception desk was unmanned with no means of summoning staff. Once I located a member of staff he checked us I but the first room had a problem with the key card operating the lights but second room filled our needs very comfortably. We ate in the lounge and the food was very good (although a bit on the pricey side) however I was confused as to why my fish and chips were served with a paper napkin between them and the plate - fearing the food would leave the plate if I tried to remove the napkin I tried to ignore it, but it was soon breaking up with the cutting action and the heat/moisture. After processing the payment on my debit card the waiter then asked if everything was all right - I explained about the napkin at which point he said he could have given us a discount, but it was too late. The mixture of old and new make a verb nice hotel but the service just wasn't quite there.
