First impressions are deceptive
Initial reaction on reaching the hotel was that it was run down but when we went in inside we could see that it was in the process of being updated.
The work done so far is really impressive. The room was very nicely decorated and there was a large shower in the en-suite. The downside was that the room was directly above the extraction vent and was quite noisy and ran all night which meant that sleeping was not easy. The hotel is grade two listed so they can't install double glazing but this would not have eradicated the problem as there was a constant drone which came through the walls. Breakfast was ok. We ate in the restaurant on the night of our stay and everything was delicious and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Would not stay here again until the renovations are complete and would not want to stay in the rooms near the extraction unit.
The hotel staff appeared to be unprepared when we arrived and quite disorganised.
The evening meal was poor and I wouldn't eat there again. The room was too hot and so noisy we couldn't sleep. The bed was very uncomfortable. The shower though was great. The receptionist did not charge for one of the evening meals when we checked out which was decent as it was poor.
