Not great

The building looks good from the outside, but the rooms inside are disappointing.

Our "superior" room was an odd shape and consisted of a wide hallway and a very small bedroom space (9 feet by 9 feet), much of which was taken up with a long desk unit (just like a uni hall of residence). Totally impractical for two people. The wardrobe was tiny with five hangers using only three non removable holders. The whole place is set up for single people attending conferences. The bathroom (also tiny) was a throwback to the 1990’s.

Our view over the lovely grounds was in fact a view over the coachhouse, which apparently housed the standard rooms.

Breakfast was basic, with cold plates and just two types of bread … white or brown sliced. Reception staff were friendly, but obviously very overstretched. We waited 10 minutes on arrival before someone came to check us in. Fortunately we were not in a hurry, as they tried to give us a standard room, so there was a lot of clicking on the computer to make a superior room available. This was very galling, as we had booked months in advance.
