About the hotel

More a pub with rooms than a hotel, The Bull is an attractive former coaching inn built in 1398. Boasting a prime town centre location close to Braintree and 25 minutes from Stansted, the hotel offers 16 unique en-suite bedrooms, two inter-connecting function rooms with private bars, large gardens and intimate old-world bars that boast a modern feel enhanced by a giant inglenook fireplace. Please note that this is a lively pub and there is live music playing most weekends.

The Bull Hotel can now cater for weddings with their brand new luxury summer marquee. The Marquee is available from April until November and can seat up to 60 people. Extensions to seat up to 120 people may be available on request.

Late overnight stay

I booked my standard double room very late in the evening and was greeted by the friendly manager who carried my bags up to my room.

The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable and, being an Old English Inn, full of character. I had everything I needed - there were plenty of tea making facilities (and some very nice biscuits!) The shower room had a more than ample supply of clean towels and bodywash/shampoo. There was a TV and hairdryer supplied. As the room was at the front of the hotel, there was some traffic noise which was to be expected but I had an extremely comfortable night's sleep. The only shame was that I had to miss my free breakfast as I was due to meet a friend that morning and had not allowed myself enough time to eat it beforehand. I would imagine it would have been excellent if the standard of the rest of the hotel is any thing to go by. Friendly staff too. Highly recommended!
