Great place to stay in Surrey
Convenient friendly hotel would definitely recommend
Very disappointing stay, beautiful setting for hotel spoilt by cold room and very poor service
I recently stayed at the Hartsfield Manor for a late-booking business stop-over.
Arriving at the hotel I was very pleased with the beautiful building and lovely surroundings, close to the M25, but unfortunately that is where the positives really end.
The car-park is very poorly lit making parking difficult at night and walking to the hotel unsafe, especially when battling with bags through the darkness up a very steep slope. On arrival, I was greeted by polite staff, but their quality of service was extremely poor. Regrettably the gentleman on the front desk had very poor English and so I could not understand him well and had to ask several times to clarify whether he was taking a pre-payment on my card or if I was being asked to pay up-front, something I still needed to clarify the next day (without success!). He didn't advise on any of the hotel facilities and simply handed me the key and pointed to my room. My room was in the annexe, which was fine for the price, but on entering the room, although it looked smart, it was clear that the heating had been shut-off for sometime and hence the room was very cold. I turned on all the radiators, but the room took till nearly 11pm to properly warm-up. The bathroom was dated and included an annoying ticking clock, whilst the TV in the room had appalling reception and an unworkable channel sequence.
The restaurant was very quiet early evening and so I plumped for the lounge bar, this was probably the best thing about my stay. I ordered a burger which arrived quickly and was very good, as was breakfast the next day, I definitely rate the food. Careful though, at £5 a pint, the drinks are not cheap. After a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed (once the room had warmed up) I was then greeted by a cold shower first thing, indeed I couldn't even muster any hot water from the basin tap. I fear the annexe is a very poor cousin of the adjacent Manor House. When it came to checking out, I was greeted by yet another friendly member of staff, but whose English was again limited, such that we again struggled to define the previous day's payment hiccup. Indeed, she then proceeded to completely mess-up the bill and race around trying to get receipts from the restaurant even though breakfast was pre-booked through Late Rooms. I was running late and was delayed even further by the lack of professional service at the desk. Overall, this is a great looking hotel, with lovely charm, in a good location, but on this occasion it was completely let down by very poor staff service and the poor care provided in the annexe rooms. Based on my experience I would not recommend staying here any time soon.
