De Vere Venues Hartsfield Manor
Ensure you have a room in the main house to avoid the negative experiences from previous guests.
Restaurant was too formal for us so ate in the bar and the food was pretty good and wine selection was decent. Beautiful setting and overall great value for money!
Beautiful quiet location. Victorian mock gothic house. Cheapy decor. Real potential but lacks detail
The hotel occupies the most beautiful location just outside the village with views across the Surrey hills.
I wish I had spent more time walking around the place.
A delightful mock gothic pile, but I think the décor and modernisation is too "modern motel ubiquity" for the setting. In fact some of the brown and mauve blocky furniture and fittings was a painful imposition on what is essentially an interesting Victorian country house.
On arrival the receptionist was rushed off her feet. I had asked for my room to be feather free but there were feathers on the bed. She changed my pillows but left one without a pillow case. The local area produces some fine beer but the bar had only mass produced pressurised keg.
I didn't stop for dinner - the menu was rather limited and uninspiring so I pottered down the lane to the local pub where the beer (Harveys) and the food (locally shot venison) was great. The room was big spacious, comfortable and quiet and I got a good nights sleep. My only quibble was the TV - again it pandered to the bland and lacked BBC4 or Film4. There was also no radio for a bit of relaxing classical music. I didn't have breakfast as this was an additional £14 and I was going over to the RHS at Wisley which does a good local breakfast. I also liked the fact they provided the Independent newspaper for guests, balancing political sensibilities.
I could have done with real milk etc for tea in the room and a few welcoming details etc
As a Late Rooms deal at £49 I can't complain at all. If I was paying full whack I might have been less forgiving of the homogeneity and standardisation of what could be a really interesting hotel for those looking for a tranquil break close to the smoke.
