A bit soulless and directly under the flight path at 500.

I would not recommend this hotel on the basis that preference is given to event booking clients.

I booked 2 superior rooms for one night (Saturday) as a base for visiting Manchester for shopping.

We arrived early and rooms were not ready. That was understandable so we made our way to the bar to get a drink and a snack while we waited. On arriving at the bar we were asked if we were part of the wedding party. When we said no we very rudely told that the bar was only for the use of the wedding party and were asked to leave. We were told that coffee was available in the lounge, but the machines were not working. We then asked about booking a table for dinner only to be told that the restaurant was closed that night due to the wedding. On asking we were given a list of local eating places. We were very unhappy with the situation and said that we should have been made aware of the situation at the time of booking. We were told that we should have checked the website regarding such situations. We have stayed in many Devere Venues over the years when weddings have been taking place and never experienced a lack of service even though the hotel was busy. The receptionist did a search of other hotels in the area and offered to book us into an alternative accommodation but all were booked up. We were then asked if were willing to stay in the Devere if we were refunded our booking fee. On consideration of the situation we accepted.

We booked in. I had requested quiet rooms as my wife is a light sleeper and was told this had been done. The rooms were as advertised but had not been prepared to a satisfactory standard. There were hairs in the bath and a sock under the chair. Also, used towels from the previous occupant had been left in the bathroom. The bed had no mattress cover and one of the bedside lights had no bulb in it. I took the towels down to reception.

Having eaten out that evening and returned to the hotel (not able to have a drink at the bar) we went up to our rooms at about 11.30. The wedding disco was in full swing. We expected this but had asked for a quiet room. You can imagine our amazement to find that we were immediately above the function room. My wife rang down to reception to ask when the disco was finishing to be told this would be 1.00am!. The duty manager could sense our frustration and came up to the room to see us. He said we should have been put in a room at the other end of the hotel as we were not in the wedding party. He was aware that the booking fee was being credited to my account and offered to give us further compensation by way of and additional free stay. The disco ended at 12.45 at which point we tried to get to sleep. Unfortunately, our room was also above the service area where an air conditioning unit or similar was buzzing away all night. We all went down for breakfast when we were told we were not on the list. After explaining the situation we were allowed in. The buffet style hot breakfast was to an average standard but the croissants were burnt to a crisp. When my wife asked if there were any fresh ones available she was told no. I found this hard to believe when it was only 9.00am and breakfast was being served till 11.00. (probably hanging on to the good ones for the wedding guests). On booking out we asked the receptionist why we were allocated a room over the function room when were told (by herself) when booking in that it would be a quite room. She said that all the superior rooms were that end of the hotel. This was not explained to us. Under the circumstances we would have opted for standard rooms if we could have a good night's sleep. On the subject of further compensation, we were told that the night manager was not authorised to make such offers. We are not greedy people but these offers should not be made when they cannot be delivered. The overall experience was not good and has let down a group of companies that I have previously provided me with excellent service on both a corporate and private basis.
