Misleading advertising and grossly overpriced
My wife and I booked three nights through LateRooms at this hotel from 20th October 2015 at a price of £194 per night based on photographs on their website which made the hotel look very attractive.
On arrival we could not have been more disappointed. The exterior of the hotel is very shabby and the reception area was cold, deserted and smelled damp. We were shown to our room by the only employee we saw at the hotel for the first day and a half of our stay. The 'deluxe' room we were given was nothing of the sort. It was sparsely furnished with a poor quality bed, two miserable pillows and some furniture of such poor quality it looked homemade. The wallpaper had clearly been patched and but still showed some areas of damp and mould. The hotel does not have central heating and the smell of damp in the corridor leading to our room was terrible. Our room had an electric 'Dimplex' heater on the wall as the only source of warmth and a label on this said that it only worked between 3.00pm and 10.30pm. Hardly acceptable in a room costing £194 per night. There was no information in the room about the hotel. No menus, no details of restaurant opening times, no room service details, no useful telephone numbers. Nothing. The view from the room was very nice but hardly exceptional in this part of Scotland. The food was acceptable but the restaurant was unacceptably cold in the evenings. WIfi was free but only worked in the reception area. On our final night TV reception was lost for the whole evening and it proved impossible to turn off the lights in our room as the ceiling lights continued to shine at half power despite repeated efforts to turn them off at the switch. Out of 291 postings on another review site, 43 visitors rated this hotel as 'terrible', 45 as 'poor' and 46 as 'average'. This in my opinion is a more accurate rating for this hotel. On checking out I was presented with a bill for £683.10. On complaining that I thought our room was grossly overpriced I was assured that the fault lay with LateRooms as 'they make up the prices for our rooms'. I accept the assurance I have received from LateRooms that this is not true. My letter of complaint to this hotel has neither been acknowledged nor answered.
Great little lodge!
Great accommodation with wonderful food and view from a window to die for.
We spent a couple of nights there and did not have a single complaint. Very nice and helpful staff.
We will be going back for sure!
