About the hotel
Melody House and Melody Cottage were built around the start of the 14th century as a much larger residence than stands here today. It housed Gt Ryburgh Magnar's Guild Hall under the priory of Walsingham. Ryburgh Magnar was a very powerful garrison settlement set along the banks of the beautiful River Wensum.
It also had 3 fortified manor houses built in close vicinity. Its famous Saxon church with its round tower only stands 200 yards away. From 1656 the Guild Hall under went a great number of works to improve its structure after a fire removed its whole south wing and the introduction of window tax required the loss of a great number of its windows, a grand new gable end was added. It was then sub-divided into 9 smaller tenement cottages. It also housed the village provision stores for nearly 400 years and a number of smaller retail outlets. There are folk law stories of priest stairs and underground tunnels leading to the church and the odd thing that goes bump in the night.

Over night stop over
I needed a room for one night in this location, this proved very difficult as there must have been a few events on that weekend and despite extensive searching I drew a blank.
Until I tried late rooms and found this beauty. Audrey the landlady was very accommodating, even running an excellent fish and chip shop right next door. Also a pub next door going the other way, what more could you ask for. Excellent night sleep, so quiet, breakfast the next day was so big it beat me. Would certainly recommend Melody House BB. Just one very minor point, didn't see the complementary bottle of wine, but did get homemade fudge, homemade biscuits and a mini bottle of fresh milk in a mini fridge in the room!!
Quite a find
Really delighted to find this Band B which was both a holiday cottage but providing wonderful breakfasts.
Well located for best bits of Norfolk and next door to a great pub serving excellent food. The owner very accommodating!
