About the hotel
The Rivendell was built in 1924 and is totally unique and idyllic in the area. The architect who designed it was one of six students who studied directly under Charles Rennie Mackintosh at Glasgow school of art and his influence is obvious throughout. The house was of private residence of the Penman family who prospered locally as early exponents of the motor trade.
The house was then purchased in 2002 by its current owner, Bruce Harper and underwent a total renovation maintaining the original features throughout.

Found a nice little gem here, scottish themed hotel.
We had the room with 4 poster bed, room size excellent, en-suite probably on the small size but adequate for us. Breakfast was good, thought it was good value for money. Only stayed the one night to visit a friend at the end of our holiday. Will use this hotel again if were staying in Dumfries area.
The owner is rude and unwelcoming.
