Not a palace
OK, we weren't expecting a palace, we know from the pictures it was a converted church.
It is run as a sort of conference centre. We had left it too late to book anywhere better, but at £100 for the 2 of us for one night, this was not a cheap place to stay. To be fair, the room was clean, and the bed was comfy enough. Some of the furniture in the room was slightly broken, including the electric fire (just the one leg!) but luckily we didn't need it. The problems started at midnight, when the phone rang in our room to ask us to turn the TV off as another guest had complained. Odd, as we had not had the TV on, and were, in fact, asleep. The receptionist said sorry, but of course we were now awake. Noises from the room above us kept us awake - and it didn't help that they got up at about 5.30am and started singing. I do appreciate that this is not the fault of the staff. When we got up and went through for breakfast, there was a buffet of cooked items - which presumably had all been sitting congealing since 7am - it was now 8am. Despite there being a coffee machine in the dining area, all that was on offer was an urn of not very hot water and instant coffee, and tea bags. The choice for breakfast was very poor. But the main thing was that there were just other guests, and no staff around. When someone did eventually appear, i raised the matter of them waking us at midnight for no reason, and got no further apology. I do feel that waking guests for no good reason is pretty unforgivable - the rooms were not so far from reception that someone could not have along and worked out which room had the TV blaring (we certainly couldn't hear anything).
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone except perhaps Trading Standards.
Overnight in Aberdeen
Room was clean and tidy if a little small.
Shower was good. Breakfast was ok. Good value for money.
